    2. JACQUELINE PEACHEY
    3. I don't have a lot to go on, but thought I'd try it anyway. You never know if someone else is searching the same family. In my case I only have a person, not the whole family. I'd like to find the birth place for Eliza Ann HARRIS, she was born about 1844, in 1860 she married William N. CULP/COLP in Jackson County, Illinois. (William was from Franklin County) Could it be likely she was from Jackson County? I would like to be able to find her parents and siblings. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance. Regards, Jackie

    1. 1780's Richmond Co., NC/possible Scottish/Cherokee???
    2. Hello, Re: Cherokee - Scottish ancestry in 1780's Richmond Co., NC I am looking for information regarding my 3rd great grandmother, Mary McDONALD, who, as with other McDONALD's, could also be known as McDANIEL. My question of the moment to any of you researching this timeframe of 1780's in Richmond County, North Carolina is regarding the possibility of Mary McDONALD's family which, obviously, has Scottish ancestry.........perhaps being one of the many Scottish families that married into Cherokee families. Just recently, it has come to my attention that there were many Cherokee and Scottish families especially out of North Carolina in the 1700's. When I became aware of this situation as it applies to other family lines of mine, I began to wonder whether or not this might be the source of Native American Indian lineage that my grandfather, Louis Hector SLAUGHTER, born: 14 Feb 1869 near Liddieville, Franklin County, MS, spoke to my mother about before his death in 1938. He mentioned, specifically, to her ancestry of his that was Native American Indian and French. So far, through researching the SLAUGHTER lineage there has not surfaced any Indian nor French heritage at this point. His mother was Claranda "Clara" WILLIAMS in Catahoula and Franklin Parish, LA and I am still researching her family with her father, William WILLIAMS, born in abt. 1790 in Maryland, and the mother of my great grandfather, Hudson H. SLAUGHTER, born: 13 Mar 1844 in Greene Co./Pickens Co., AL, who was Susan CROUCH, born: abt. 1815 in NC, (daughter of Samuel CROUCH, born: abt. 1785 in NC,) who married John M. SLAUGHTER, born: abt. 1795 in NC, who was the son of Mary McDONALD and Owen SLAUGHTER, Jr., (son of Owen SLAUGHTER, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth BOLTON.) Up until recently, I hadn't specifically thought that Mary McDONALD might be the source for the Native American ancestry as I tended to think of the French and the Indian ancestry being in the same family branch but, upon hearing of the several family groups of Scottish - Cherokee families that I possibly connect to through other lines it brightened my hopes that, perhaps, I might find the information that I am searching for within Scottish - Cherokee McDONALD families in the late 1700's in Richmond County, North Carolina. While Mary McDONALD is my maternal 3rd great grandmother the timeframe would have 'normally' allowed her to be my 4th or 5th great grandmother but her son and great grandson both married women that were approximately 20 years younger than themselves as 2nd and 3rd marriages. Mary McDONALD/McDANIEL married Owen SLAUGHTER, Jr. in 1782 in Richmond Co., NC. A brief family tree with their children is listed below. OWEN SLAUGHTER, JR., (Rev.) .......b. Abt. 1760, ...........Anson County, North Carolina; .......d. February 03, 1830, ...........Richmond Co., North Carolina .......mother: Mary Elizabeth BOLTON .......father: Owen SLAUGHTER, Sr. md: wife # 1: MARY MCDONALD/MCDANIEL ............md: in abt. 1782 in Richmond Co., NC ............mother: ?? ............father: ? McDONALD/McDANIEL md: wife # 2: PRISCILLA THOMAS ............md: in abt. 1819 ............father: Daniel THOMAS ............mother: Sarah COVINGTON Children of OWEN SLAUGHTER and MARY MCDONALD/MCDANIEL are: i. WILLIAM4 SLAUGHTER, ...........b. Abt. 1785, ...............Richmond County, North Carolina. ii. ELIZABETH "BETSY" SLAUGHTER, ...........b. 1783/abt. 1783 ...............Richmond Co., NC; ...........d. Aft. 1850; ...........m. ISAAC LINDSEY, .....................md: December 28, 1802 .............................Richmond Co., NC iii. EASTHER/ESTHER SLAUGHTER, ...........b. 1786/abt. 1790 ...............Richmond Co., NC; ...........d. December 27, 1863 ...............Houston, Chickasaw, MS. iv. DANIEL MCDONALD SLAUGHTER, ...........b. November 01, 1788, ...............Richmond County, North Carolina; ...........d. December 04, 1884, ...............Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. v. MARY 'POLLY' SLAUGHTER, ...........b. 1788 ...............Richmond County, North Carolina ...........d. 1843; ...........m. HUTSON HARRIS, .....................md: Bef. 1805. vi. OWEN (III) SLAUGHTER, ...........b. 1790; ...........d. 1823. vii. MARTHA SLAUGHTER, ...........b. 1792; ...........d. 1830; ...........m. BERRY CHUNN, 1810. viii. JOHN M. SLAUGHTER, ...........b. 1796; ...........d. 1846/47 in MS, ...........m. Susan CROUCH, ....................b: abt. 1815 in NC ....................prob. as his 2nd wife, ...........(who was his 1st wife?) Looking forward to hearing from anyone who might have a clue as to the possibilities of my speculation regarding this Scottish - Cherokee connection. In advance, I thank you. 1. Indian Traders
    2. Jim Farrister
    3. Harris were possibly Indian traders or connected to the Indian trade in the southeast, as the name is listed in the surname index of a three volume set of Indian Affairs journals, located at http://members.aol.com/rarebk Once at the site, go to Booklists, then Native American Genealogy, and scroll down to the Cherokee Ancestry CD. There you will see a link to the surnames. This site also has an on-line tutorial that shows how to do Native American Genealogy research (the 1835 Cherokee census is within that) and explains the rolls in detail, also some CD's that look to have lots of resource material, and a surname index to Starr's "Old Cherokee Families and their Genealogy." There is more, but too much to list here. Jim _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

If there is anyone with knowledge of him or have census for those states I would sure appreciate any information you could obtain for me. Evans
