Good evening Myra...I never realized there is 350 HARRIS' on this list. One would think with that many it would make our job of family hunting easier. Not so. Most of my HARRIS' are from Pitt County NC. I've only gotten back as far as Joseph b.abt 1785. His son Guilford,is my g-grandfather. I have found much info about Guilford, but not too much for Joseph. Only that he was married twice and his occupation was a Cooper/Farmer. Guilford is buried in Hanrahan Cemetery, but haven't found a grave for Joseph. To all the cousin on the list..HAPPY NEW YEAR..Maybe we are related more than we know. I have a dead end on my ggrandmother, Mary Harris Shaw. Mary Harris was wed to Jesse Shaw in 1834 in Franklin County, Indiana. That is the earliest documentation I can find on her life. She was born 2/13/1813 in Kentucky and moved to Indiana as an infant. I suspect, from circumstantial evidence, that her parents were Benjamin and Ruth Pendleton Harris. Both Benjamin and Ruth were born in Virginia in 1782 and 1790 respectively. I believe the moved to Iowa after 1850 where Benjamin died, though I do not have a location in Iowa. I believe that Benjamin and Ruth had other children including: John Harris Henry Harris Sarah Harris Hesritt or Herritt Any assistance would be appreciated. Larry Shaw
I am still looking for the parent's of my GGrandmother Mary M Harris, she was born iOct 18, 1845 in Ga, possibly in Coweta,Campbell or Fayette County. She married Jesse J. West in Coweta County,Ga in 1862. I have a copy of her death certificate and it shows her father to be Henry V. Harris. Her mother's name is too dim to read.
Hi, Does anyone have connections or info on this family?? Thanks, Rick Russell I have some information from the Attala County court records, and the way I understand it is that Ewing Harris, father of John A., Serena, Sarah and Nannie Harris, died before 1860. Apparently his wife Mary Day Harris died previously? When he died the older kids Serena and John A. Harris chose Benjamin F. Brown as guardian and he was also appointed guardian of Nannie Harris. William Sanders was appointed guardian of Sarah Harris. William M. Russell (age 27, my gggrandfather) then married Serena Harris, apparently only 14 years old, and also took over guardianship of her brother John A. Harris. FIRST GENERATION 1. Ewing W. HARRIS was born in 1815 in Kentucky. He died before 1860. He was married to Mary DAY est 1842. Mary DAY was born in 1821 in Mississippi. Ewing W. HARRIS and Mary DAY had the following children: 2 i. John A. HARRIS was born in 1843 in Mississippi. +3 ii. Serena HARRIS. +4 iii. Sarah HARRIS. 5 iv. Nannie HARRIS was born after 1850. SECOND GENERATION 3. Serena HARRIS was born in Feb 1845 in Mississippi.2 She died on 29 Nov 1908. She was buried in Bethesda Cemetey, Holmes Co., MS. She was married to William M. (Lonzo?) RUSSELL, SR. in 1860. William M. (Lonzo?) RUSSELL, SR. was born on 7 Feb 1833 in Alabama. 1880 Holmes Co., MS census lists birthplace as Alabama. He died on 15 Oct 1896. He was buried in Bethesda Cemetey, Holmes Co., MS. Buried next to Serena H. Russell, Miss Ella Russell, and O. Ella Russell. Headstone states William M. Russell. Serena HARRIS and William M. (Lonzo?) RUSSELL, SR. had the following children: 6 i. William Lonzo RUSSELL, JR. was born in 1864 in Mississippi. 7 ii. O. Ella RUSSELL was born on 4 Aug 1866 in Mississippi. She died on 3 Nov 1937. She was buried in Bethesda Cemetey, Holmes Co., MS. +8 iii. Nannie M. RUSSELL. +9 iv. Sally R. (B?) RUSSELL. +10 v. Ewing Ike RUSSELL. +11 vi. Susie Serena RUSSELL. +12 vii. Dora RUSSELL. 13 viii. Ellie (Miss Ella?) RUSSELL was born in Jul 1890. She died on 15 Nov 1937. She was buried in Bethesda Cemetey, Holmes Co., MS. 4. Sarah HARRIS was born in 1847 in Mississippi. She was married to John Jackson STEVENS. Sarah HARRIS and John Jackson STEVENS had the following children: +14 i. William Isaac STEVENS.

I have been totally unsuccessful tracing my Great-grandfather's ancestry in England (perhaps Ireland). I don't have an accurate birth date for him (I've seen several, all with some question), perhaps 1838, 1843, or 1850. My Mother, Dorothy Harris, suggested in her writings that he was 72 in 1910 when he entered Deer Lodge prison in Montana for shooting his friend Al Cotton. He died Jan. 1, 1913 in Deer Lodge Montana. The funeral record in Sheridan Wyoming, where he is buried, suggests that his birth year is 1837 or 1836. He was a Plasterer when he came from London England, but I do not know when or on what ship. In the period of time between 1895 and 1910 and (I think) after he sold his homestead in Monarch Wyoming to the Wyoming Coal Company, he was commonly know as "George Irish". This was largely related to his behavior, but certainly could reflect his descendantcy or heritage. The first record I have of him after coming to America is his marriage to Viola Mae Stoker in Muscatine County Iowa on June 22, 1873. They had several children, most of who were born in Nebraska (much of their time was in Kearney County). Eida Clara, William Joseph H., Emma Amy, Edwin Wilbert Albert, Frank Oleseium, Cora, Rosa Bertha Mae, Eva Marie, Grover, Paul, and Myrtle Doris Mae (born in Wyoming). George arrived at Fort Custer Montana somewhere around 1881. I've heard that he tended the Calvary's horses there. He lived near there (on a hill?) and participated in the construction of the Custer Monument at the Little Big Horn Battlefield near Crow Agency Montana. Can anyone fill in the blanks on his arrival in America? His journey and purpose for going to Muscatine Co. Iowa? He heritage or lineage in England/Ireland? Please help me solve this mystery. Still seeking descendants of the above couple who were married on the 26th of June 1836 in St. Francois Co, Mo. They were still in Mo in 1850 and were in Lawrence Co, AR in the 1860 census. Have not been able to locate the family after this date. Their children were: Clara J, James N, Rebecca A, Samuel H, Jonathan, John C (or S), Luvina, William N, Isabel A, and Sarah M--possibly more. Isaac's sister, Louvena, married Elizabeth's brother Hezekiah Lasater Jr, also in St. Francois Co in 1835. They too ended up in Lawrence Co (much earlier though--late 1830's) where Hezekiah died and Louvena remarried--to a William Wells in 1841. She had at least one child by Hezekiah, a daughter Margaret, and I would like to learn more about her as well. Thanks! Vanessa Lasater Argyres
I have been stuck for literally years on this family and need the lists help in trying to place him. He is Benjamin Harris b: abt 1824 in NC. He was first married to Rutha (no last name) b: abt 1825 in TN. They had 9 children: Mary D, Hiram or Herman, Melvina, Thomas J, William H, Rebecca F, James, Robert M, and Martha. Then he married Harriett (Rittie) Knox in Cumberland county, TN. and had the following children: Andrew John, Rhoda & Ruthie Jane. He lived in Bledsoe co TN with first wife and Cumberland co TN with second wife. My grandfather, Curtis Harris was born through Ruthie Jane Harris. I believe Benjamin's mother was Elizabeth Harris b: abt 1780-1800 in NC. Don't know who her husband was. Possible brothers for Benjamin were: William Lacey, Lorenzo Dow and William Oliver Peter Harris. All of these men were born in NC between 1815 and 1824 and migrated to TN. I was wondering about West Harris and his descendants from NC when I saw your message. Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Crystal
