    1. [HARRIS] Really Big Big Posting Error
    2. Susan Jones
    3. Hi List, I hope everyone learned a lesson from my horrible mistake last evening. Never post to a list when you are tired. I posted a website that would show fixes to the errors in initials after ancestors' surnames. Then I blew it. I said: "Sorry for the incontinence." I meant to say inconsistencies. I hope you all had a great laugh. LOL Now, I just need to find a dark closet somewhere and hide for a few days. You all have a great one. Sue (Dumb Dora) macduff@infi.net

    3. Hi List, It has been pointed out to me that on numbers 2, 3 and 4, there are errors. If you would go to this website, you will get the correct information. Apparently the person who posted the information originally, made a mistake and I just duplicated it. Here is the website. http://us-gen.com/al/bibb/court/legal.htm Sorry for any incontinence. 3. I need help from some of you Harris researchers. I cannot find the parents of my grandmother. When my father was living, he could not tell me much becaause she died when he was five years of age. All that I have been able to find is as follows: Mary C. Harris Birth: October 1867, AL. Her mother and father were born in AL (1900 U. S. Census, Carbon Hill, Walker Co., AL). Marriage: To John Henry Hall, 19 March 1897, Sulligent, Lamar Co., AL. (copy of birth certificate, although her last name is spelled "Harrison" by mistake). Death: ca. 1908, Carbon Hill, Walker Co., AL. When she met my grandfather, she was working in Sulligent. As far as my father knew, she had two brothers and either two or three sisters. His two brothers visited his father after the death of her mother because they were friends. Their names were Robert and Thomas. They both lived near the border of Alabama and Mississippi. I really hope someone can help me because I just cannot find anything more about my Harris Line. 3. Hello Fellow Harris Researchers... I think I just broke through the BIG BRICK WALL we all hit at one time or another. I belive I have found my Harris line: In the 1850 Estill Co, KY census: Josiah Harris, 41, b. KY wife Sarah Tipton, 39 JOHN, 14, ) James, 12 William J., 10 THOMAS J., 8 Susan J., 6 Lewis F., 4 Mary E., 1, twin Sarah F., 1, twin My John Harris named one of his sons Thomas Jefferson Harris and that is the name of the Thomas J who is 8 in 1850. I was grasping at straws as we all do at times and it just fits. The names of the children in this family match up with names John and his son Thomas Jefferson gave to their children. Is there anyone out there researching this family? Sure would like to nail this down pat. Any help greatly appreciated. Lois in Auburn, CA

    3. It's not the same as a death certificate, but you can send for a copy of the Social Security application which has a lot of the same information. Substitute the appropriate information in this form. It's possible to request a copy of SS applications (Form SS-5) of deceased people from the gov't, which gives place of birth, parents names, signature, etc.  Each copy costs US$27.   Here's a form letter generated by the ancestry.com site: ------ < begin form letter > ------- Social Security Administration Office of Earnings Operations FOIA Workgroup 300 N. 3. Hi Joyce... It depends on the date of death. A lot of states did not require death, birth or marriage info until the 1900s. When did your Harris die and in what state? Lois in Auburn, CA, USA

    1. [HARRIS] Nathaniel, West, Samuel Harris of GA
    2. Pat Hardin
    3. Researching Nathaniel Harris who was listed in the Walton County GA 1830 Census. Also looking for information on West Harris who was listed in the Walton County GA 1830 Census. Was West Harris the son of Nathaniel? I am descendant of Nathaniel Harris' daughter Lucinda (born 1800 GA) who married William Freeman (born 1795 GA). I have found newspaper articles linking Nathaniel Harris to William Freeman, William Harris and Samuel Harris. Samuel Harris was also living near Nathaniel Harris in the 1830 Walton County GA Census and is of an age to have been a son. Was this Samuel Harris the same that married Fanny Huff in Walton County on Dec. 19, 1826? My husband is a descendant of Samuel and Fanny Huff. Samuel Harris is living near William and Lucinda (Harris) Freeman in the Walton County GA 1840 Census. Nathaniel Harris was born in VA and lived in Wilkes County and in the same district as a West Harris but the West Harris in the 1830 Walton County GA Census would have been much younger that the West Harris who was paying taxes in Wilkes County GA as early as 1790. Nathaniel Harris married Susanna Appling the daughter of Thomas Appling. Nathaniel Harris was living with his daughter Lucinda and her husband William Freeman in the 1850 Gwinnett County GA Census. His occupation was listed as a blacksmith. I would like to here from anyone researching these Harris families. Thank You, Pat pfhardin@carolina.rr.com
