    2. Franklin Ingram
    3. I am searching for William T. Harris, born about 1829 in Putnam Co GA, son of Gray Harris and Nancy Fuller. He lived in Putnam Co GA, Chattahoochee Co GA, Stewart Co GA, and Tallapoosa Co AL. The place of his death and burial is unknown. Also virtually nothing is known about any of his children or their descendants. His children alive in 1880 were: William, Walter, Fanny, Robert, Eugene, Emma, Emory, Gertrude, and Gordon. All but Gordon were born in GA. Gordon was born in AL. Although William T. Harris married first Sarah Holloman, all of his surviving children were born to his second wife, Margarete M. _________. Known details about William T. Harris, his 2 wives, and his 11 known children is summarized below. Will trade information in exchange for any help tracking William T. Harris and his descendants. Franklin Ingram, Raleigh, NC f_w_i@msn.com Details about William Harris (C. 1829-After 1880) and his children: 1. WILLIAM HARRIS was born Abt. 1829 in Putnam Co GA, and died Aft. 1880. He married (1) SARAH HOLLOMON 26 Sep 1851 in Stewart Co GA, daughter of MARK HOLLOMON and MARY PERRY. She was born 18 Aug 1833, and died 12 Sep 1857 in Stewart Co GA. Harris was buried: Abt. 1857 in the Sardis Methodist Church Cemetery, Stewart Co GA. It is located in the 19th District of Stewart Co GA, but it was built when this District was still part of Randolph Co GA. Sarah Hollomon Harris’ obituary appeared in the “Southern Christian Advocate” issue of 2-11-58 “Methodist Journal.” She was referred to as "Mrs. Sarah Harris, daughter of Mark and Mary Hollomon, and wife of Wm. Harris Esq.” [No death date given]. Her mother had also died and was the next obituary. Sarah died at her father's residence in Stewart Co GA. In the 1850 Stewart Co GA Census, the Hollomons were living approximately twelve households away from the Harrises in the 19th District. The “Esq.” probably resulted from William T. Harris being a Notary. Notes for MARGARET M. ______ The second wife of William T. Harris was born about 1840, and they were probably married about 1858. Name 1: Margarete, 1860 Census, Age 20, Chattahoochee Co GA, Household of W. Harris. Name 2: Margaret, 1870 Census, Age 30, Stewart Co GA, Household of William Harris. HARRIS: The "History of Chattahoochee County, Georgia" (1933), p. 289, June 1860, shows William T. Harris as guardian for John H. Snellings, orphan of Henry Snellings. It states that William T. Harris and his ward, John H. Snellings, have transferred residence from Talbot Co GA to Chattahoochee Co GA with Gray Harris as Security. The “Georgia Gazetteer: 1881-1882” shows businesses by towns. Lumpkin, Stewart Co GA has William Harris as a Notary and Grocer. The “Daily Columbus Enquirer,” May 4, 1860, p. 2, c. 1, quotes the following from the “[Milledgeville] Southern Recorder--Extra.” “Constitutional Union Convention, Milledgeville, May 2, 1860. The Convention met to-day, at 11 o'clock in the Representative Hall.... The roll of counties was called and names of delegates present enrolled as follows: List of Delegates:...Chattahoochee--W. T. Harris, J. F. Bagley, J. W. Howell, J. C. Cody, G. P. Gordy...." [Note that whether W. T. Harris later supported the cause of the Confederacy cannot be determined by his opposing secession. For example, ardent Unionist, Alexander Stephens, spoke in favor of preserving the Union, however, once Georgia seceded, he accepted the role of Vice-President of the Confederacy. Stephens County GA is named in his honor.} Official documents that probably represent the same WILLIAM HARRIS referred to him by several names. Name 1: William Harris, 1850 Census. Name 2: William T. Harris, Guardian-John H. Snellings. Name 3: W. T. Harris, 1860 Delegate to the 1860 Constitutional Union Convention, Milledgeville, GA. Name 4: W. Harris, 1860 Census Name 5: William Harris, 1870 Census Name 5: William F. Harris, 1880 Census Name 6: W. T. Harris on Tombstone of son, R. D. Harris. Name 7: Wm. T. Harris, Masonic Lodge, Stewart Co GA. William Harris has been found in the following Censuses: Census 1: 1830, Putnam Co GA, Under 5, Household of Gray Harris. Census 2: 23 Oct 1850, Stewart Co GA, Age 21, Household of Gray Harris. Census 3: 16 Aug 1860, Chattahoochee Co GA, Age 30, Farmer, Head of Household. Census 4: 26 Aug 1870, Stewart Co GA Census, Age 40, Head of Household. Census 5: 1880, Age 50, Tallapoosa Co AL, Head of Household. Masonic Affiliation: 1854, Weston Lodge no. 80, Stewart Co GA, in the name of Wm. T. Harris. Arrested for the murder of Richard (Dick) Hall, Stewart Co GA, 14 Aug 1870. Richard Hall was a mulatto living next door to William Harris and Margarete M. in the 1870 Stewart Co GA Census. Apparently moved to Tallapoosa Co AL about 1878, but he buried a son in Stewart Co GA in 1886. The place and time of the death of William T. Harris is unknown.

    3. Good morning, I belong to many other Lists, but have just joined this one. For more than 8 years I have been researching the KIDDER family which was centered around Calais and Princeton, ME, from the early 1800's to the present. .. My great-grandfather, G. Sanford Kidder, was born in Princeton in 1870. He was the son of Joseph and Clarissa (WILKINS) Kidder of Princeton. "Sanford" was the oldest of six children; his two brothers were Frank Kidder and Clinton Kidder, who both moved their young families to Berlin, NH. They had three sisters: Julia Kidder married John ROBINSON and probably lived in Waterville, ME. Ruth Kidder married Alexander MOORE, and they probably lived in Houlton, ME, or just over the border into New Brunswick. The youngest sister, born around 1880, was known as Aurelia "Rilla" Kidder. "Rilla" was married to ... John N. HARRIS.. in 1901 (or 1907) in Houlton, ME. The marriage certificate states the bride's name as Marion A. Kidder. After all these years, I cannot find any information at all .. about where John and "Rilla" HARRIS lived their married life and whether or not they had children. I do have a few other miscellaneous facts: John N. Harris was born in March 1876 in Canada .. and assume it was either in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or possibly Quebec Province. ... The 1900 Census for Houlton, ME, shows that John immigrated in 1895. ... There is a possibility that he had a prior marriage .. as a 5-year-old girl, Effie Harris, is found living with another family .. in that Census.* Records differ but John N. Harris married Marion A. Kidder in Houlton, ME, on July 31, 1901 (or 1907). .... Mrs. "Rilla" Harris died in March 1925. ... Mr. John Harris would have been around Age 50 at that time. I do not know what became of him after 1925. Thank you for your time, Betty (near Lowell, MA) *Someone told me that there were other HARRIS marriages in Maine around the same time as John N. Harris married. The grooms were listed as Charles W. Harris and George G. Harris.

    3. Hi, everyone, I am researching the family ties of my James G. HARRIS, b. 1831-1834, TN, parents b. SC, or father b. TN & mother b. SC (census conflict.) I have not been able to locate James in 1850. He married in 1857 in Itawamba Co., MS, and 1860-1880 was recorded with his family there. In 1880, living next door to him was an Elvira (or Almira or Eliza?) HARRIS, b. 1815/16, SC, with her son, Robert, b. 1851, AL, and her daughter or daughter-in-law, Mary, b. 1861, AL. (This family does not appear on any census prior to 1880.) There are scattered records for a James M. Harris in Itawamba---recorded on the 1836 Tax List; in1838, he sold some land and was not recorded on the Tax List for that year; was recorded there in 1840, but not 1850 or 1860. Last record of him was in 1877 in Lee Co., MS, where he appeared with several other HARRIS heads of household, including my James G. The 1890 census is destroyed, and that year my James Harris family moved to Indian Territory---I don't know if James d. in MS or out there. James had children: William Henry (mine), Alice, Robert Walker, Idilia Elizabeth, Bertus Clifton, and Flavius O. I note several similar names in Lawrence Co., AL during the years prior to the appearance of my James in MS---particularly James G. HARRIS found in 1850, age 68; William, age 44, b. TN; and James M. Harris, married in Lawrence in 1833 (&? 1838) but not recorded in Lawrence following these records. Does anyone have records for the Harrises of Lawrence? ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated. Pam pamstone@digital.net
