    1. [HARRIS] Explanation/Response & Further News articles
    2. Thank you all for your gracious responses to my fledgling attempts to put on the net all of these old newspaper articles that I have inherited. (I just wish they were in condition to scan). Several of you have not only responded, but asked about your "brick walls". PLEASE CONTINUE TO DO SO! But you need to understand, there are literally more than a few hundred of these articles and they are in big scrapbooks in NO ORDER, OR NOT BY FAMILY! They are just my wonderful Great Aunt's collections over her lifetime. They relate to my HARRIS family, but they may be just friends in some cases, or cousins 3, 4 or 5 times removed. And, once in a while, they are in my direct line which are HARRIS' that originated in Germany and came over during the Rev. War and then settled in Mifflin Cty., PA., for a while before then migrating to Tusc. Cty., OH and staying for a generation and then ending up in central and southwestern IN. (And of course going "everywhere " from there. So, please continue to send your inquires as convenient, and I will do my best to keep you emails for when I run across an article that relates to your question and then recontact you? (I hope)! I also hope that I will get some new leads also!! Thanks for your help and understanding. 1. [HARRIS] Newspaper Articles
    2. Hello Listers: During the last few years, I have been searching for my PA/OH/IN HARRIS family. During that time I've seen at lot of very kind submissions of information about all kinds of info. (Sadly, not enough to tear down all my "brick walls", but a bunch). As a result of seeing all the help that has been given, I will be submitting many articles from old newspapers that I inherited from my aunt. These articles are mostly obits, but some are just 'newsy". They concern themselves with my HARRIS', as well as many other friends and extended family members primarily from the late 1800's to shortly before WWII, in and around south and western Indiana as well as some articles from Ohio. I TRULY hope they will bring a light to the long dark tunnel of Genealogy searching we are all involved in. They are in no order and unless stated in the article, have no dates. I tried to scan them, but they are just too frail. Please bear with my "H & P" typing. I hope they help someone. FRED HARRIS "Last Monday evening at 8:50 o'clock the last spark of life was extinguished from the body of "Uncle Henry Correll". The deceased was born in Tuscarawas Co, Ohio March 8.1826 and died August 28, 1893. Under the ministry of Rev. E. Abbott he joined the ME Church, 1841 and since lived a consistent Christian Life. He had for several years been connected with business interests of our town and was also a soldier, in both the Mexican and Late wars. He leaves a wife, relatives and scores of friends to follow him. "Artie Harris died in Clarksburg, Daviess County, Indiana, February 25 i879. Aged 13 months and 24 days. He was the infant son of Mary Ann Harris . The little lamb is safely gathered Heaven's fold." 3. Searching for information on Edward HARRIS and Elizabeth (Liza) HARRIS nee LAWRENCE. I am just beginning my search on this branch of my family tree. 1. [HARRIS] Harris-UK-Essex List on Rootsweb
    2. Glenn Gohr
    3. Dear Harris Researchers: Rootsweb has been encouraging some of the surname lists to split up into regions of the world (such as U.S., UK, etc.). Also variations of spelling have now been divided into their own lists in the last few years. Since many of the Harris Researchers in early Virginia have ties back to Essex County in the United Kingdom, especially around the area of Creeksea, I have started a new surname list on Rootsweb called the Harris-UK-Essex list. The HARRIS-UK-ESSEX mailing list is for the discussion and sharing of information regarding the Harris surname and variations in Essex County, in the United Kingdom. You can subscribe to this list in mail mode by sending a message to HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else in the body of the message. If you prefer digest mode, you should send the command instead to HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-D-request@rootsweb.com and the word subscribe and nothing else in the body of the message. To post messages to everyone on both HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-L and HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-D, messages should be sent to HARRIS-UK-ESSEX-L@rootsweb.com. Messages sent there will appear both places. You are welcome to belong to both the Harris e-mail list (which you are already on) and the Harris-UK-Essex e-mail list. We will continue to try to funnel genealogy messages about Harrises in the U.S. and elsewhere to the Harris list. And information on Harrises in Essex, UK and related localities to the Harris-UK-ESSEX list. If you have any further questions about the new list, feel free to contact me privately at: archives_guy@hotmail.com Glenn Gohr (Harris-VA & Harris-UK-ESSEX List Manager) archives_guy@hotmail.com
