The search for LINTON Harper b. 1800-1810 who m. Susan Galor 9/24/1831 is still ON! The name of Linton is so uncommon- however, I found a township in Coshocton Co, Ohio that is of the same name. THOMAS HARPER is listed in that 1820 twn. but there are no males listed as being 20 and under. Thus- elimination ABRAHAM Harper is listed in the 1820 census of Licking Co, Hopewell Twn. Ohio. with having 2 sons under 10 yrs; 1 son 10 yrs. and under 16 (thus elimination IF Linton was b in 1800) o.k. if born between 1804-1810. ABRAHAM Harper is listed in th 1830 census of Licking Co. Ohio with having 2 sons 15 and under 20 that makes them b. 9n 1810. THEN, one son 20 and u 30 who would have been b. in 1800. (Linton's oldest daughter was b. ca. 1833-4) In the 1840 census, Abraham is still living in Licking Co., Ohio Liberty Twn. and has no one in the column that would match Linton's age. Going back to LINTON's marriage to Susan Galor Aug.24, 1831, I find them listed in the 1850 census of Morrow Co. with their children. (William 16, Lydia 14, Thomas A. 12, Abel 9, Aaron ?) Harriet Harper (Linton's eldest dau) mar. David Harigle in 1855 Is there anyone "out there" that would have information on Abraham Harper, as to who might be listed as family? I'd love to solve this ongoing mystery of "my Harpers" -IF I'm correct in assuming that Linton belongs to Abraham. Most of you Harper "listers" are on the Benjamin line, and my Linton could be in the 1810 Frederick Co. Va. list of being 3 boys under the age of 10. Please give me your thoughts! Remembering that in Ohio, Morrow Co., Licking Co., Coshocton, Knox, Marion are all quite close......... THANKS!!! d
Hi, I may have corresponded with you before; I am not sure. I cannot help you directly but I have some HARPERs in Belmont County OH, which is also not far away from the ones you mention, in the time frame you are talking about. What I have is: 1 Joseph HARPER b: 1790 d: Aft. 1861 Belmont Co, OH +Agnes 'Nancy' MAJOR b: 12 Dec 1792 Harford Co, MD d: 16 Apr 1861 Morristown, Belmont Co, OH 2 William HARPER b: 1815 d: Aft. 1880 3 Samuel HARPER b: 1849 2 Samuel Alexander HARPER b: 08 Jun 1826 Belmont Co, OH d: Apr 1881 York Co, NE +Margaret Price TAYLOR b: 22 Jan 1836 Belmont County, OH d: 02 Jun 1869 Appanoose Co, IA 3 Infantson HARPER b: Feb 1856 Belmont Co, OH d: Feb 1856 Belmont Co, OH 3 Infantdau HARPER b: 05 Jan 1857 Belmont Co, OH d: 05 Jan 1857 Belmont Co, OH 3 George Taylor HARPER b: 21 Mar 1858 Des Moines, IA d: 14 May 1866 Barnesville, OH 3 Joseph Lincoln HARPER b: 03 May 1860 Des Moines, IA d: 29 Nov 1937 Portland, OR 3 Frank Orlando HARPER b: 14 Dec 1861 Carlisle, IA d: 09 Aug 1911 3 Chester Chase HARPER b: 20 Nov 1863 Barnesville, OH d: 18 Aug 1871 Appanoose Co, IA As you see, no Linton. But it is entirely possible, even likely, that Joseph had other children between William and Samuel and I just don't know about them. My interest in this family arises from the fact that Margaret Price TAYLOR was my greatgrandfather's sister; any Harpers who are her descendants are my cousins. Also, since you asked for thoughts, one of mine is, what if Linton was his mother's maiden name, and maybe his first name was actually John or who knows, and he went by the middle name? I would love to hear from you or anyone else who knows anything about any of the HARPERs listed above. I do have a little more information. Best of luck!
