I, Also am interested in this book. The first actual documented contact that I have had with my Harper line was G,G,Father Jason W Harper and G,G,Mother Sarah Elizabeth White in Elbert, Hart Co. Ga where they married in 1846 and the next thing I knew was that their 3rd Child "Mariliza M.H." was born Pickens Co. Al. in 1853 and that is where they lived out their lives and were buried along with some of their Children and Grand Children in the Zion Primative Baptist Church Cemetery in Gordo, Al. I have always wondered what route they took to get there....... I have suspected that maybe they went to Tennessee and over and down Alabama. I currently live in Decatur Ala and about 15 minutes East of here is Madison, Co. and I know from the Harper research that I have done there were a lot of Harper's buried in that County but I have nothing factual to go on. Ray, Do you have any Frank, Floyd, Estelle, Pauline, or Grover Harpers or Whites? I am looking for my "black sheep" Harpers. Perhaps they were Whites. My gg grandfather was Frank Benjamin Harper when he married my gg grandmother, Leila Chambers in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia in 1910. The Chambers were from Hart County, GA and Anderson and Abbeville Counties in SC before moving to Winterville, GA. Frank and Leila had children, Frank Jr. , Pauline, Estelle, Floyd (Bo), and Mary Ruth. Estelle was my grandmother. Frank had some problems with the law. Leila's sister said Frank was "bad to steal." Anyway, Estelle was born in 1917, and by 1934 when she married my grandfather in Adel (Cook County) Georgia, the entire family had changed their surname to Collins. One of Estelle's sisters in law confided that Estelle said the family name was White before it was Collins. Said her father changed the name to avoid the WWI draft. Before moving to Georgia, the Harper-White-Collins family lived in Alabama. I wrote to the department of corrections to get information for Frank Jr. My father told me he was in prison there. I was hoping to find more information for the family through records or newspaper accounts. Still no response from them. Frank Sr. was convicted of 5 counts of stealing cattle in Peach and Baker Counties in Georgia in 1947. He died in the Georgia State Prison in 1951. Prior to 1947, he lived for a time in Belle Glade, Florida. He is buried with the Collins surname in the Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Tampa, FL. His death certificate lists parents as unknown. No one who knows anything about this side of the family will talk about them. Frank may have had a bother named Grover. A man by the name Grover Harper visited him in Belle Glade. Nothing of ancestors listed in the obituaries for Frank or his children. Running out of ideas, but your Harpers were in the same areas. If you hear anything. Please let me know. Hello Harper Listers, My maiden name was HARPER< and my father was Wm. Harry, from Iowa. His father came from Hamilton, Ontario in the 1890's. Although I have a lot about him, Stuart Sylvester HARPER, and his grandparents, Rev. Wm. F.S. and Eliza Emily (HARPER) HARPER, who died in 1875 and 1890, respectively, both at Kingston, O., and who lived most of their lives at Bath, a small town near Kingston, I can find very little about their son, Wm. F. Henry m. Sarah Sylvester, the parents of my grandfather. I do know Wm. was m. 26 MAY 1847 at Bath, and Sarah was b. about 1857, Hamilton, O. I also know William was a clerk at times, and a traveling salesman at times, from city directories of Hamilton. He was m. in Hamilton in 1874. Stuart was their only child as Sarah d. before he was a year old. However, from relatives, I learned a long time ago that he may have had a brother, George, and a sister Louise. Louise moved to the US. That's it. Does anyone know anything about this family? By the way, Rev. HARPER'S father was Lt. Col. John HARPER,R.E. b. Dalgety, Fife, Scotland, and d. 20 DEC 1837, Isle of Guernsey. There seem to be no records at all of him on Guernsey, yet that was the last place he was stationed. Wonder if anybody knows more about him. I haven't found a HARPER family yet that connects direxctly to mine, excapt for families in australia, descended from Lt. COl. John's brothers and sister. But I thought I'd try once more.
