Just to follow up on Mike's message, the only Pendleton County Harper participant in the DNA project so far is a descendant of the line starting with whom Marsha refers to as Jacob the Pioneer. Jacob and all of his children left Pendleton County, VA (now WV) in the 1790's. They went to Kentucky. Most, if not all, Harpers who still live in Pendleton or adjoining counties can trace their lineage back Philip the Pioneer. It was his family which arrived in 1750 on board the ship "Patience". It would really be helpful if a descendant from this lineage would step forward and participate in the Harper DNA project. Then we could prove if Jacob the Pioneer and Philip the Pioneer were related or not. The genealogical evidence suggests they probably weren't brothers. They might have been cousins. Or they might have been totally unrelated Harpers who just happened to settle in the same general vicinity. Which scenario do you think it was? We have the means to answer this question. All we need is one volunteer from the line of Philip the Pioneer. Just one. For more info on Jacob the Pioneer and Philip the Pioneer, go to Marsha's website at http://www.fred.net/mfuller/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Harper8" <MHARPER8@houston.rr.com> To: <HARPER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 23, 2003 7:12 AM Subject: RE: [HARPER] Re: HARPER-D Digest V03 #97 > I would just like to bring to your attention that there is a Harper Surname > DNA project ongoing. I am hoping my husband will participate (after all, what¹s a few cheek cells anyway?)... If for no other reason than to give me some idea WHERE his Harper line might have originated! Thanks to a fellow Harper researcher, I am confident I can place our Harper ancestors in Pennsylvania area in the early 1800's... The direct line goes to Alabama and then on to Arkansas - that's where I have the MOST data for these Harper's. If the information I think¹ I know about these Harper¹s is correct, I¹d appreciate some fellow Harper researchers pointing me to a place I can start researching in Pennsylvania. Thanks! Jeannette Again what I DO know of these Harper's is the following: James W Harper married Laura Scott (5 Nov 1882 Independence Co Arkansas) They had the following: Elbert H Clarence Ruill A (I am assuming this is a female...) George E Dorsey W (married Ona Rae Gibson, Independence Co Arkansas) What I 'think' I know about these Harper's is the following from the 1880 Census Place: Magnolia, Columbia, Arkansas Source: FHL Film 1254040 National Archives Film T9-0040 Page 96A Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace J.
