Dear Listers, I just joined this list, and thought I'd see if anyone knows anything about my great-grandfather, William Henry HARPER, who was b. 26 MAY 1849, at Bath, Ontario, and d. abt. 1888 (?) probably in Hamilton, Ontaario or that vicinity. He m. Sarah Sylvester, 16 FEB 1874, St. Thomas Church, Hamilton.From City Directories I learned that he was a clerk part of the time, and also sometimes a traveling salesman.My grandfather, his son, Stuart Sylvester was b. in Sept. 1876, and Sarah d. when the baby was two years old. We do not know if Wm. ever remarried, or what happened to him after that, as he is no longer listed in directories. From tradition, Stuart was "raised" by his grandmother, and ran away with the ciecue in about 1891, thus ending up in America. Does anyone know anything about this Wm. Henry? I have heard, but do not know if it's true, that Stuart had a brother George and possibly a sister, Etheldreda. That would mean his father remarried. Any info. I can get will be most appreciated.
