I've "rescued" the framed original marriage certificate belonging to Ernest A. HARTWELL & Alice A. HARPER both of Spencer Creek, Michigan who were married in Spencer Creek on the 24th of October 1890 by the Rev. George S. ROHNSON. Witnesses to the marriage were Eastman HARPER and Alice HARTWELL. Based on limited research I believe that Ernest HARTWELL b. 1862-63 may have been the son of John & Ann HARTWELL who with their 5 children (Martha, Ernest, Lulu, Alice, and Alfred) were in Helena, Michigan during the 1880 census. John HARTWELL and his two oldest children were listed as having been born in Canada, with his wife Ann born in England. The remaining HARTWELL children including Ernest were born in Michigan. I'm hoping to find someone from their family so that this wonderful old treasure can be returned to the care of family.
