I am seeking the parents of Robert J. Harper. My greatgrandmother was Mary Etta Harper born 1858 in Martinsberg, Berkeley County. Her father was Robert J Harper born about 1825 in Maryland. I find them in the 1860 and 1870 census in Martinsberg. Robert's first wife (Mary Ellen Piper) was from Jefferson County WV. I assume they married before 1849 when their oldest daughter was born. When Robert married for a second time in 1867 he gave his parent's names as John and Rebecca. He is said to be a relative of the Harper's of Harpers Ferry.
