    1. Re: HARPER-D Digest V98 #145
    2. Rickie, My great-great-grandfather, CASWELL HARPER, had a son, WILLIAM CASTLETON HARPER. I think "Caswell" was a shortened or mispronounced (or both) version of CASTLETON, because in the 1860 Georgia Census he is listed as "Caswellton". He lists his parents from Virginia. He lived most of his adult life in Hamilton County, Tennessee, and had 12 children. His youngest son, JAMES (Jim) Harper, was my grandmother's father. She never met her father and was raised by a foster father. I went to Tennessee after her death and found relatives, one of whom gave me a tintype of Jim Harper. I am very interested in the CASTLETON HARPER JR. of Virginia, but can't find an absolute connection. Any help? I have a new email address: ([email protected]) Linda McDaniel Smith
