A trip to the HARPER family Cemetery in McDonough, Henry County, Ga.on East Lake Road, revealed this on tombstones: Edward Harper Rev.soldier Husband of Frances Bibb Harper Son of Judith Landrum and Henry Harper of Va. Grandson of Castleton Harper Of Va. Frances Bibb Harper Wife of Edward Harper Daughter of Sarah Martin and Thomas Bibb of Va. Grandaughter of Ruth Kettele and Thomas Bibb of Pa, The book " First Families of Henry County Ga." reads as follows: The HARPERS are believed to have been in Pennsylvania in the early 1700's. Our earlist known ancestor was Castleton Harper whose death was recorded in Albemarle Co., Va. in 1784. One of his seven children was Henry Harper, a Revolutionary Soldier, who married Judith Landrum. Henry Harper enlisted in May 1770 as a private in Capt. Clough Shelton's Company of the 10th Regt. commanded by Col. John Green. Henry Harper fought at Valley Forge and was discharged in 1779. He d. in 1784 in Amherst Co., Va. at age 32, leaving ten children. After the Revolution, his oldest son, Edward Harper who married Frances Bibb, moved to the area of Wilks Co., Ga., which later became Elbert Co. Edward Harper and his three sons, Thomas Bibb Harper, Henry Austin Harper, and Roderick Bibb Harper, are listed in Wilks Co., Ga. in the 1805 Lottery and in Elbert Co., Ga., in the 1807 Lottery.
