    1. [HARPER-L (D)] Re: From List Mom - Part 2
    2. Jeannette
    3. OK... Sue asked "But why all those Harper-L(D)'s..." It's because EVERY time you send a message (reply and new) the Rootsweb server ADDS another prepend item to the front of the Subject line. Unfortunately, there's no way for their server to 'see' there's already a Harper-L(D) so it just adds another and another and another... Modern technology is great MOST of the time but there are those times when it's really a pain in the backside! Hope this helps in the explanation department ;-) Jeannette > Jeannette > I don't think you answered what Laura was asking, and > I have been wondering too, why do all the subject lines > have [HARPER-L (D)] Re: [HARPER-L (D)] List mom ANSWER... > > I am subscribed to HARPER-L so why does it always say > HARPER-L(D) ? > Thanks > Sue > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Jeannette Harper" <Budlink@surewest.net> > To: <HARPER-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, March 03, 2003 9:48 PM > Subject: [HARPER-L (D)] Re: [HARPER-L (D)] List mom ANSWER... > > >> Laura (and anyone else who's interested...) >> >> The 'prepend' data to ALL Harper list submissions represents "L" for >> List and "D" for Digest. >> >> If you are subscribed in "List" mode, you see every single message as >> soon as it is received and then clears the Rootsweb servers and is >> sent out > into >> cyber space. 2. Jeannette Harper
    3. Laura (and anyone else who's interested...) The 'prepend' data to ALL Harper list submissions represents "L" for List and "D" for Digest. If you are subscribed in "List" mode, you see every single message as soon as it is received and then clears the Rootsweb servers and is sent out into cyber space. (And clears YOUR server... Reminder folks -- not all ISP's treat email the same! If you don't empty your mailbox and you surpass your quota, you won't receive ANY email!!) On the other hand, if you subscribed in "Digest" mode, you see the messages as a group when 'the group' size reaches either "X" mb or so many days (whichever comes first... I don't remember the mega byte number) According to the "Welcome" letter from Rootsweb: "... By default, copies of your own submissions will be returned." That means when YOU send a message, you should be seeing that message as it filters through cyber space and your ISP's server... Laura, if you are NOT seeing your message than by all means let me know. I know it works as I've been seeing my recent 'reminders' just fine. You can always double check the Archives to see if your message never reached the list... http://searches.rootsweb.com/ or http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=ROOTS Hope this clears things up ;-) Jeannette Harper Email: budlink@surewest.net List Administrator (Harper L- List and D- Digest) > List Mom, > > Please answer a simple question for me: Why do all my HARPER inquiries have a > (D) in the suject? What does that (D) mean and how come I don't see my own inguiries when I send them out to: Harper-L@rootsweb.com ? Are these two seperate list groups, or what?
