    3. Sorry! Sometimes I forget these lists are transatlantic (as I'm sure many others do). MDX is the common abbreviation for Middlesex, a county on the outskirts of London. These days St Lukes is a part of London... Cheers, Sam ----- Original Message ----- > I take it this is in England. 3. Hi I'm new to the list. My HARPER interest is Harriette Sophia / Harriet Sophie HARPER, born approx 1841 in Loughborough, Leicestershire. According to her marriage certificate, her father was called John HARPER. Do these names ring any bells with anyone? If anyone has access to the 1851 and/or 1861 census for Leicestershire, I'd really appreciate a lookup? Thanks in advance for any help! Sam

    2. Stephanie- YOU could hold the mystery to my Harper situation------ PLEASE keep me posted- or the entire Harper list- on the Harper line that you're re-connecting with! Again, my LINTON HARPER m. Susan Galer Aug. 24, 1831 I do not know his father or mother. Linton was listed in the 1850 census of Morrow Co. Ohio. He died in 1875 , she died in 1876. Both buried in S. Bloomfield Cemetery in Morrow Co. Ohio. There is an Abraham Harper listed in the 1820 census of Licking Co., Ohio, 1830, and 1840. IF my Linton is a son of Abraham, the dates are not completely conclusive- and I've never seen the name LInton mentioned by ANYONE. Please keep looking Stephanie!!! My hopes are riding on you! d

    2. Mitzie, Besides myself their is also an Evelyn Bresette that is a decendent of Thomas Harper(d. 1885 Brown Co. Kansas). She is a decendent of Thomas's oldest son Abraham. Evelyn and I snail mailed some things before 1997, she lives in KC, Missouri. I'm sure that their are others also, I'll have to go thru my stuff. Mitzie, from the bottom of my heart I would also like to THANK YOU AND YOUR FAMILY for maintaining the family graveyard near Winchester. You and your family have put so much work into cleaning out the overgrowth, putting up a fence, and even buying a stone for Benjamin and Charlotte's site. Please tell your children and grandchildren that all of us really appreciate their hard work. 3. I am forwarding this message from a new subscriber... Jeannette Harper Email: budlink@surewest.net List Administrator (Harper L- List and D- Digest) ==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-==-== Hello Harper Family, I finally got the courage to clean out my boxes of research papers and came across something the caught my eye. Over ten years ago I copied a paper listing Harpers. This is before I knew anything about my Harpers except what was given to me from the family records from years past. I copied this particular page "thinking" there might be a connection. Now on the page that is cut off I find what could be the answer. Unfortunately the book is back in North Carolina where I moved from in the past two years... I am looking for _______ Harper born 1759 in Shenandoah Co, VA died in ________ Township, Champaign Co, OH on 11 Jun 1835 married _________ Lare/Lair of Shenandoah Co, VA died 1847 in ___________ Township, Champaign Co, OH I am going to see what familysearch.org has in it's card catalog to see what early type of records there may be to fill in the connection. Would love to here anyone's thoughts on this. Sincerely, Stephanie SteffersK4270@cs.com

    3. You bet this sounds familiar. This Archibald has got to be tied in the my family tree somewhere out of Surry/Sussex/Dinwiddie Co., VA. William Sr., m to Frances Wyatt, had children: William Jr., Wyatt, Mildred, Edward, Frances, Martha, and Benjamin. Edward is my line. His sister, Martha "Patsy" b 1739 was married to John Rivers. The Wynns are one of the allied families in that area...[too much to go into here]. Somewhere around 1785 after the Revolution these families start migrating. William I had a brother Joseph of Dinwiddie/Prince George Cos, VA, and these families started splitting up and heading either to TN, or to GA, and points west. The families that migrated through Russell Co., VA to TN are real fuzzy, and records hard to find. Many of us are working on it. Would love to hear from anyone that can help with this line. 3. Hi, I may have corresponded with you before; I am not sure. I cannot help you directly but I have some HARPERs in Belmont County OH, which is also not far away from the ones you mention, in the time frame you are talking about. What I have is: 1 Joseph HARPER b: 1790 d: Aft. 1861 Belmont Co, OH +Agnes 'Nancy' MAJOR b: 12 Dec 1792 Harford Co, MD d: 16 Apr 1861 Morristown, Belmont Co, OH 2 William HARPER b: 1815 d: Aft. 1880 3 Samuel HARPER b: 1849 2 Samuel Alexander HARPER b: 08 Jun 1826 Belmont Co, OH d: Apr 1881 York Co, NE +Margaret Price TAYLOR b: 22 Jan 1836 Belmont County, OH d: 02 Jun 1869 Appanoose Co, IA 3 Infantson HARPER b: Feb 1856 Belmont Co, OH d: Feb 1856 Belmont Co, OH 3 Infantdau HARPER b: 05 Jan 1857 Belmont Co, OH d: 05 Jan 1857 Belmont Co, OH 3 George Taylor HARPER b: 21 Mar 1858 Des Moines, IA d: 14 May 1866 Barnesville, OH 3 Joseph Lincoln HARPER b: 03 May 1860 Des Moines, IA d: 29 Nov 1937 Portland, OR 3 Frank Orlando HARPER b: 14 Dec 1861 Carlisle, IA d: 09 Aug 1911 3 Chester Chase HARPER b: 20 Nov 1863 Barnesville, OH d: 18 Aug 1871 Appanoose Co, IA As you see, no Linton. But it is entirely possible, even likely, that Joseph had other children between William and Samuel and I just don't know about them. My interest in this family arises from the fact that Margaret Price TAYLOR was my greatgrandfather's sister; any Harpers who are her descendants are my cousins. Also, since you asked for thoughts, one of mine is, what if Linton was his mother's maiden name, and maybe his first name was actually John or who knows, and he went by the middle name? I would love to hear from you or anyone else who knows anything about any of the HARPERs listed above. I do have a little more information. Best of luck! 3. Jan: I keep looking at this line and the correspondence on it, and the name Alexander keeps popping up....and of course all the regular Harper names: Joseph, John, William, George, Harriett, etc.....but the Frederick Co., VA area was not the normal stalking grounds of my Harpers, so I must not get too excited. That area was abundant with Harpers that are not connected to mine.....that we know of. So many PA Harpers came that way. Most of all my Harpers went to GA, AL and west....although there is some indication that a branch went to TN and then north...but that is so far a stretch that I can't prove didly.... But, I am watching...would love to have your gedcom to put in my working files if you care to share....I'll share anything I have on my Harpers if you would like. But stay in touch.....we're all in this together....and slowly the different lines are taking shape. Maybe in another five years we might have them fairly sorted......just being hopeful!!! your friend in research shirley gail holley-sova selma, al "Janice A. 2. The search for LINTON Harper b. 1800-1810 who m. Susan Galor 9/24/1831 is still ON! The name of Linton is so uncommon- however, I found a township in Coshocton Co, Ohio that is of the same name. THOMAS HARPER is listed in that 1820 twn. but there are no males listed as being 20 and under. Thus- elimination ABRAHAM Harper is listed in the 1820 census of Licking Co, Hopewell Twn. Ohio. with having 2 sons under 10 yrs; 1 son 10 yrs. and under 16 (thus elimination IF Linton was b in 1800) o.k. if born between 1804-1810. ABRAHAM Harper is listed in th 1830 census of Licking Co. Ohio with having 2 sons 15 and under 20 that makes them b. 9n 1810. THEN, one son 20 and u 30 who would have been b. in 1800. (Linton's oldest daughter was b. ca. 1833-4) In the 1840 census, Abraham is still living in Licking Co., Ohio Liberty Twn. and has no one in the column that would match Linton's age. Going back to LINTON's marriage to Susan Galor Aug.24, 1831, I find them listed in the 1850 census of Morrow Co. with their children. (William 16, Lydia 14, Thomas A. 12, Abel 9, Aaron ?) Harriet Harper (Linton's eldest dau) mar. David Harigle in 1855 Is there anyone "out there" that would have information on Abraham Harper, as to who might be listed as family? I'd love to solve this ongoing mystery of "my Harpers" -IF I'm correct in assuming that Linton belongs to Abraham. Most of you Harper "listers" are on the Benjamin line, and my Linton could be in the 1810 Frederick Co. Va. list of being 3 boys under the age of 10. Please give me your thoughts! Remembering that in Ohio, Morrow Co., Licking Co., Coshocton, Knox, Marion are all quite close......... THANKS!!! d

John Harper, son of Samuel and Sarah (Cunningham) Harper and born abt. 1799-1800 in VA, settled with his parents in Ohio. John was married three times; first to Rebecca Wood(s), then to Elizabeth Wilson, (who may have been Elizabeth BOBST prior to marrying a Wilson,) and third to Sarah Baily/Bailey. One of he and Elizabeth's children was John W. Harper, born abt. 1832, probably in Champaign Co., OH. I found a John Harper in the 1880 census of Logan Co. married to a Lydia ?, and children: Thomas HARPER b. abt. 1864 Bertie HARPER b. abt. 1868 Juanita HARPER b. abt. 1871 Mathis HARPER b. abt. 1871 Lou HARPER b. abt. 1875 Leo HARPER b. abt. 1877 Sallie HARPER b. abt. 1879 Anyone know of this family? It's possible he is the son of John and Elizabeth, but I have no proof. Kaylynn
