I have a James Washington Harper but he was born in GA and died in AL. Sorry
Need Bonnie Ferguson's email address to invite her to the reunion of descendants of Robert Harper/Marjory Payne to be held at Bryant, Saline County, Ark., Oct. 12. Any other descendants are welcome. If interested, ask me for details. Regards to all Harper researchers. Troy Harper San Leandro, CA Reply to tharper@pacific.net
It also gets my attention when I see a Harper with the middle initial "W" as My G,G,F was Jason W Harper (1821-1889) I am almost certain that his middle name is "Wriley" however, he had a Grandson that was named "Worthu" Jason Married Sarah Elizabeth White (1828-1901) in Elbert County, Ga. (1846) and ten years later the Family migrated to Gordo, Al. (Pickens County) I, along with my Niece (Glenda Harper Strange) have been researching the Harpers for 28 years and have been unable to locate Jason's Parents. We have a lot of theories but cannot prove anything ....in those days if children didn't like their given name they took another name for instance my Fathers middle name was Dewitt so he shortened it to the initial "D" later on he was known as D Harper then someone changed it to Deed Harper when he was Grown and the name stuck with him until he died. Two of my Uncles (Daddy;s Brothers) was named UncleWorthu & Uncle Milton Riley and they renamed their selves as Uncle Bill and Uncle Horse Lately I have been leaning toward the possibility that Jason's Given name was really James since Jas, is short for James....Oh well back to research again Ray Harper b, 1926 Decatur, Al
Here is an Indiana Source Book III (from State Library) showing Knox Co., Indiana. marriage licenses & certificates: Harper, Henry - Eliza Hadden 12-6-1825 Harper, Jacob - Jemima Rose 11-20-1817 Harper, James - Margrette Curry 12-4-1812 Harper, John T. - Caty Glass 2-2-1830 Harper, Joseph - Martha Palmer 11-9-1830 Harper, Thomas - Polly Sullinger 4-2-1821 Harper, William - Elizabeth Dunn 1-29-1813 This info may not help, but maybe the marriages will help another HARPER who is researching. This came from Doug Harper's files, that he so freely shared with me. Laura (Harper) Hurst Glynne19@aol.com wrote: Hi, I'm searching for a James W. HARPER dob June 11, 1813 in Ky. I just so happened to glance at my email (yes, I'm really at work but I have a break..) I was a bit dismayed to read a message from one of our members pointing fingers at other members... Ummm... You all KNOW we don't allow that kind of trash talking on the Harper list, now don't you?? So before anyone gets their feelings in an uproar and does/says something they really WILL regret later, the tone and intent of this list should ALWAYS be kind, gentle, kind, friendly, gentle, caring, sharing, etc... I really don't want to see ANYONE replying to the other message except to say something like "Wow! You've just helped me find my gggg grandpappy Harper! Thanks for sharing your data!" As with ALL research (and researchers) we need to check our sources, double check our data. NO FLAME WARS you Harper researchers you... If there's something you DON'T like, my messages included, just hit your delete key please!! We will ALL appreciate your restraint. As we all know, there has been a bone of contention concerning Benjamin Harper and his wife Charlotte Hiett. No one really knows for sure (or has shown documentation at any rate) when he was born or died, when she was born or died (though I have a feeling someone posted her info once), or when they got married. Frankly, I'm tired of being yelled at for posting 'incorrect information'. I find it impolite to act like a know-it-all. I find it atrocious that said know-it-all isn't sharing information unless she is provoked. I find it insulting that said know-it-all went out of her way to get my ancestors new headstones without asking the rest of the descendents how they felt about it. So this will be my last post to this mailing list with what I personally know about my family tree. I haven't updated it to show Thomas Harper's other marriage since I feel that they really aren't important to my descendency at this time. If anyone has actual documentation (though I highly doubt it) of these Harpers please email me at zypherion@hotmail.com otherwise I wish you all luck with finding your roots. Oh and I'll be deleting any emails from know-it-all and her friend. As far as I'm concerned, you are no blood of mine. Benjamin HARPER b. circa 1770 VA d. 1817 Frederick Co. I guess it's time to once again state the obvious... Do NOT (I repeat, DO NOT) post ANY message to this list notifying the list of a virus, a worm, a bug, Trojan Horses have arrived, etc... What you may not realize is that YOU are spamming the list! Yep, in trying to help your fellow Harper researcher you are cluttering up the bandwidth with useless junk email. (Then someone will respond saying "Oh no!" and someone will respond saying "What do we do?" -- get the picture?) The servers used by Rootsweb are set up to NOT pass along any virus. Secondly, when you see an email message FROM A STRANGER telling you to delete something on your computer, don't believe it! And MOST importantly, if you receive an email message WITH an attachment from someone you don't recognize, hit that delete key pronto! ONLY if you receive an 'alert' from your ISP should you follow any instructions they provide... And those are usually to tell you "they are working on it, do nothing". So don't believe all the stuff flying around scaring the wits out of many people for nothing ;-) Just calmly go to your delete key and depress it. Ahhhh... Didn't that feel good?? Spam has gone bye-bye and you can chalk one up for the "good" guy/girl! Thanks to all and I hope wish you luck in your Harper research!!
