William Harper and his wife, Libby Clark Harper, were living in Girard Tp., Crawford County, Kansas during the 1880 census. With them were their son, Benjamin, age 7, and Annie Clark, age 13, probably by Libby's first marriage. According to the census, William and Libby were both born in Ohio in 1822. Listed next to them are Enos R. Clark, age 26 and his wife, Elizabeth, age 23. Any other information on these Harper's or the Clarks is appreciated. Thanks.... Kaylynn [email protected]
Hi everyone, I have just joined your list and have been reading your postings. I notice most queries are for Harpers in the U.S., Is anyone researching Scottish Harpers? My Father came from Peebleshire, Sct. but his ancestors were from Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. I have Harpers back to 1747 there. Does anyone have connections to this? Barbara (Harper) Logan in B.c. Canada.
Was just wondering if any Harp researchers out there had any theories regarding the parents of William Harp, born May 11, 1770 in Granville County, NC. Excluding of course, the theory that William is either the son of Thomas Marion Harp, born in Virginia, or Thomas' grandson, via an unknown son. Analee Watts

Hello, y'all. I have finally summoned the courage to submit what little I know about my HARPER line, which family legend has always said also came from Harper's Ferry. Aren't we all? Of course, nobody can be of a direct line since Robert HARPER had no children! Here's what I know. The two oldest generations are based on family oral history. Does anyone connect with this family or the places and times? Please help if you can! The generation listed at the end was a most lively and talented bunch, especially musically and artistically. There also is family legend about James Madison or Marion having been involved in the "discovery" of chloroform. Hmmmmm... i haven't been on the list much lately because i have been researching, GOOD PASTIME!! and i unfortunately have found that my facts were really incorrect....so incorrect that it is embarrassing to come back to the list with more questions!! seems that my side of the family got the parkers and harpers mixed up.....my gggrandmother's name is actually rebecca PARKER (b. 1799, SC - d. 2/4/1890, MO) daughter of dr. john PARKER (b. delaware), a surgeon in the rev. war, who married an unknown HARPER (b. NC), supposedly (note how cynical i have gotten!) related to the harpers of harper's ferry. i am now trying to get more information on rebecca and then piece together the harper part. yes, it was bad news, good news. at least i have found the RIGHT facts!! now, does anyone have any ideas on how i can get there from here??? janet d. arizona

I am looking for information on my great grandfather James Allen Harper. He was born 4 May 1862. I don't know where, although I suspect in Tennessee. He married Temperence Tina Caroline Blasingame in Obion County, Tennessee in December 1885. He and his little family left Tennessee for Arkansas in 1896 with Tina's father, George Blasingame. George went on to Texas, but Allen and Tina stopped in Arkansas. My grandmother was born in 1905 and she thought it was in Prescott, Arkansas. That may be correct, but the court house burned down and there are no records. I did find a record of James Allen Harper owning land in Van Buren County in 1902. Today Prescott is in Nevada County. I don't know if it was ever in Van Buren County or not. Counties do change over the years. If anyone can help me with my Harper, please get back to me. I have not been able to find anything on him. Hello Kathy I am very interested in this Thomas Harper. there almost has to be a connection. My Harper line all came from Pickens Co. Alabama The one man that I have gone back too but can't seem to go any further is my Great Grand Father JASON W. HARPER B. 1821 (Place not known) d. 1889 Buried in Gordo Al. (Pickens Co.) He was married to Sarah E. White (1829-1901) And here is a coincidence - Jason's Grandson was Thomas D. Harper (my Father) I do hope someone can tie this together. Raymond Harper (age 72)
