    3. Thought I would add my reqest again. HBetty Segal (<[email protected]>) got my mind to wondering if anyone out there might have a link to my brick wall !!!! of HARPER and CAMPBELL line. JOHN HARPER b. abt 1809 in NC ( according to 1850 Overton Co. TN census) d. sometime after 1857-58 (birth of last son). 2. Betty Segal
    3. I'm posting this to several lists. Pardon me if you get multiple copies. I'm looking for wives, parents, and ancestors of my gggrandfather Reddick HARPER who is listed in Johnston County, NC censuses of the early and mid-1800s. Does anyone connect to him? I'm not sure he had any surviving male descendents: At least one of his three sons was killed in the Civil War, and his unmarried daughter inherited his home. I am connected through his daughter Wilsey, who married an Aaron MASSENGILL. I have speculated that his mother might have been a REDDICK. Does anyone have a HARPER-REDDICK connection? He may have been married to a HAWKINS. Does anyone have a Hawkins who married a Harper? Any remotely relevant information will be greatly appreciated. 3. I have a JOHN (CALVIN) HARPER, b. 1809 in NC (according to census records) who married ELIZABETH CATHERINE CAMPBELL, in abt 1846 in TN??. Elizabeth was born abt. 1817 in NC as were her parents (according to 1880 census). John died suspect - 1864 or sometime during the Civil War. It is said that he was a member of CSA. Elizabeth d. 1887 or abt. in Hardin Co. KY, where she moved to be with her eldest son, also named John Calvin "Cal" Harper. John and Elizabeth had five children: 1) John Calvin "Cal" b. 1847 in TN, 2) Elijah b. April 1850 in TN(my line), 3) Thomas "Tom" b. 1852 in TN, 4) Sarah "Sally" b. 1854 in TN, 5) Alvin Harper b. 1858 TN (I believe he died young as he is never listed with the other siblings. Most of my information comes from an oral history (put to pen) from a daughter-in-law of my Elijah Harper. I am at a brick wall right now as to proof, other than verifying information through the census and an affidavit of descent in KY. Would like to share what I have on these surnames. Any help is appreciated. Thank You. 3. One of my ancestors is James Harper Bennet born 9/27/1820 in Brooklyn (NY) son of Winant Peter Bennet and Sarah Morrell. He was christenned and his parents were married in the Sands Street Methodist Episcopal Church in Brooklyn. I've been wondering where the name 'James Harper' came from and recently discovered that a James Harper and wife Rebecca was heavily involved in their church at the time. Apparently a James Harper (b. 1795) was mayor of New York City and cofounder of a prosperous publishing company. I think the latter James Harper was son of the former and Rebecca. The name James Harper also popped up as a witness to the will of Abraham Morrell of Newtown (Queens Co., NY) proved 11/29/1779. Does anyone on this list know of any other (less circumstantial) connection between the Harper and Morrell surnames? 2. Hi Folks, I heard a month or so ago that the Mormon (LDS) Church was putting their family databases on the internet and today I got this from another list. Sure will be great to be able to access their files from home. ~~~~~~~ GUESS WHAT! Beginning about March 1st, possibly a few days later, the LDS Church will release a beta test of Family Search on the Internet for about a 3 week trial basis at: http://www.familysearch.org (Keep checking until they actually have it up and running.) They would like everyone to try it out and respond! After the short beta testing they will take it off the Internet in order to fix any problems.
