    1. Charlotte Harper
    2. Preston, Madaline H
    3. Judith Woehrle and I have frequently reviewed the family names of the children of Charlotte and Benjamin HARPER who married circa 1790...and we kept coming up with the fact that she had to be the daughter of George HIETT of Middleway, VA, now WV. The name Hiett reappears for many generations in the children of their five sons. It didn't make sense for "Hiett/Hiatt" to keep reappearing without reason. We read the will of George HIETT (1787) and there was no Charlotte. George's will consisted of placing his minor children with guardians. However, Judy did not quit there and had the good sense to request the estate settlement of George Hiett from Berkeley Co. archivest, Don Wood. Sure enough it states that Nancy HIETT is to receive her legacy as per receipt (15 pounds)and Charlotte "as per ditto" (to receive her legacy of 15 pounds.) Combining this with information from Johnson's book on the Hiett family we feel there is little doubt that Charlotte who married Benj HARPER was Charlotte HIETT, daughter of George HIETT. This is a breakthru for this line....it has been one of our stonewalls...the other being the parentage of Benj. Harper. Hope this helps the descendents of this family in Frederick Co., VA. 1. RE: Georgia missing Harper
    2. Sheree Robinette
    3. Does anyone have a spare Harper that they are not sure they want to claim? I haven't been able to find any connection for my great grandfather. He was born (I think) June 6, 1892. His death certificate claims he was born in Bryson City, Swain County, NC. He had a relative named Grover Harper. He was either a brother or uncle. He had a brother named Walt or Walter. My grandfather was born Frank Benjamin Harper. He married Leila Chambers in 1910 in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia. She was born in Winterville, Clarke County in 1891. After their marriage, Frank turned to a life of crime. Don't really know everything he was involved in, but he moved often. The family lived in Athens, Atlanta, and Quitman, GA. . They lived for a time in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Florida. They travelled to many other places in between. There were two sons who had records as well. The oldest, Frank Jr. spent time in prison in Alabama before moving to Florida. His brother was Floyd "Bo" and he was charged with cattle theft in Peach County, GA and Florida. Frank Sr. was convicted in 1947of 5 counts of cattle theft in Brooks and Peach counties in Georgia. He was incarcerated in Georgia State Prison in Reidsville where he died in 1951. No one from my family will discuss him and he died before I was born. He never had a picture taken. He was a draft dodger during WWI (or so I am told) and he changed the entire family's surname to Collins. When he died, the prison authorities used Collins on his death certificate. My grandmother, Estelle Harper aka Collins married using the Collins surname, to Howard H. Pitts of Moultrie, GA in 1934. Her sisters Paulina and Mary Ruth married brothers Jack and Robert Duggan. Anyone brave enough to claim them, please contact me. Thanks Sheree -----Original Message----- From: rharper [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, 2 November 1999 21:21 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Harper + Coleman Sorry, no connection here. War Mother's Rites to Have Been Today Funeral services were to be held this afternoon at 2 from the Gordon Barnes funeral home for Mrs. Hannah Harper, 102, who died Sunday night of pneumonia. Rev. W. A. Steele, pastor of the Memorial church, was to officiate, and interment to be made in Memorial Park cemetery. In response to a call issued by Mrs, A. B. Ellis, superintendent of the Tulsa East Side sanitarium, Tulsans contributed to the fund for the funeral, thereby preventing a mother of veterans of wars of our country from being buried in the potter's field. The fund had been raised to $75 today by a $5 contribution from C. B. Smith, 104 N. Madison Av. The Tulsa Tribune was an evening paper in Tulsa and would have gone to press prior to the funeral.
