In the 10 years(almost) that the Harkey list has been in existence, not one Harkey researcher has indicated that their ancestor immigrated after 1850. In fact none that I have known of immigrated after 1800............... Nina has presented a list of such Harkeys ....................... Grace age 20 Sept. 1850 female Johanah age 28 Jan 1851 female Mary age 22, female Margaret age 24 May 1851 female Pat age 25 May 1848 Male Thomas age 20 Nov 1850 Male All of these were of a marriageable age. Questions I have is Did the two male Harkey's appear on the next US Census? Pat in 1850 and Thomas in 1860? If the 4 women married , I don't see much hope of us finding them unless some descendant comes forward. Can we be sure they were going to be permanent residents in America or if they returned on the next ship Grace and Johanah are listed as Servants. Margaret is listed as an immigrant. Poor Mary is listed as a spinster Pat is a workman and Thomas is an immigrant. By designating two of them as immigrant does that mean that only those two meant to stay in the USA? Whether or not these six stayed here, it does indicate that there were other Harkeys in the world that we need to know about. <G> My memory is not good, but once or twice people Have asked me about Harkey ancestors out west like in Kansas, Nebraska, Montana ???. I have no leads on some of those Harkeys, maybe this is them? Mary Harkey Russell bird@scrtc.com .
