Kay Wood: Can you help with Alma's first question here. You sent me scanned images of the "Land Sale Document". Was this a Cabarrus County, NC Deed Book???? I'll forward the images that Kay sent me off- list. It's pretty hard to read. I was not precise when I listed the names in the document....it says "Christopher Harkey, Dawalt Harkey, Margaret & Daniel Frick, Reuben Harkey, Catherine Harkey, Jesse Harkey, Ester Harkey, John Harkey and Susan Harkey"-in that order which appears to be by age. Yes, only Christopher, Dawalt, Margaret Frick and Daniel Frick signed the document. The other children would have been under 21. I mentioned 2 John's: John Harkey Sr and John Weilie Harkey....neither signed the document....we think John Sr was dead and John Jr was a minor. Why wife Christina did not sign is unknown....perhaps this was land designated in a will to be divided among the children....of course I have never seen a will for John Harkey. Even if that was the case, wouldn't she sign for the minor children? As for "Chrishua" HARKY in the 1840 Cabarrus Co census.....I think the spelling is more a function of the transcriber. In the image, it looks like "Christina" to me.
