Judy Carley has copied off the Harkeys in Illinois for the 1880 census and I've been having the time of my life trying to connect them with names in my database. ------------------------ I found a James Harkey who is James Calvin Harkey born 1846 in IL. He is the son of Daniel Valentine and Mgt. Weller and he is married to Sarah Frances Jennings. ------------------------ I sound Jacob married to a Laura He was born 1850 and I think may be the son of Daniel Valentine Harkey but I'm not sure because he was born 1850 and I had about 1854? They have son Charley and daughter Maude. ----------------------- Solomon Harkey age 73 is there. He is son of Martin Luther Harkey and Christina Mensinger. He is with his second wife Ellenor T. Harkey age 53 and they have Solomon Summer Harkey his son from Sophia Cress marriage. ------------------------- George M. Harkey age 42 is there with wife Zereldah and children. He is the son of George Harkey and wife Martha Swan Masters and Grandson of Martin Luther and Mensinger. ---------------------------------------------------- Daniel Harkey born 1840 a son of Christopher and Rachel Miller and his 4th wife Harriet Lentz is there with children and her brother? Nathaniel A. Lantz. -------------------- S. W. Harkey born 1811 = Simeon Walcher Harkey and his 2nd wife Louisa Sherer with two of her children named Clarra and Florence LESCHER. She apparently had married a Lescher before Harkey. S. W. is son of John Harkey and Sarah Walcher -------------------------- There was a John C age 35 married to a julia m. I am wondering if this could be the son John of George Harkey and Martha Swan Masters. ??? ---------------- There was Jacob M. Harkey age 36 that was married to Barbara Korsel and their children . He was a son of Solomon and Sophia Cress Harkey . -------------------------------- There was the children of Daniel L. Harkey son of Solomon and Sophia, The children living with the family of John M. FUMES who their mother married after Daniel L's death. Ida S. Harkey and Ella S. Harkey ------------------------------ There was a Bill Harky living in Chicago who is listed as Black age 39 born in LA. ----------------- Interesting one to both me and Judy is family of John S. Hillis--- John age 70 is married to Elizabeth L age 60 born in NC Her mother Jane Harkey is living with them. She is 86 born in NC I think she was Jane Bannir and had been married to Matthias Harkey - the son of Martin Luther Harkey. They also have a Julius Paisley living with them age 26. Judy has been looking for Amanda Harkey who married an Albion Paisley and lived in IL.. This Julius has the same birth year as their son. Now we are wondering if Elizabeth who was born a Harkey could have had a sister named Amanda?? -------------------------------- Those I couldn't identify were a Mary F. Harpster mother of John W. Harkey age 7 in 1880 She was age 28 and married to Henry Harpster. ------ Charles Pilcher age 36 married to Lydia A. age 35 born in OH. had a George Harkey born 1858 living with them as Brother in law and to me that means he was Lydia 's brother?? --------- There was Margaret Winhold born 1818 Germany who had daughter Maggie Harkey age 33 born in PA and Marian Harkey grand daughter age 8. This confuses me . If Margaret was married to a Harkey he died before 1845 also if her daughter was a Harkey and her grand daughter was a Harkey did anyone get married?????? <G> ---------- The last is a James Harkey lifted with a bunch of other men of various names in Mascoutah, St. Clair Illinois James is single age 30 and born in IL. I can't remember when I've had so much fun. Patrick Murphy sent me all the Harkey names index and I pestered Judy until she is sending me state by state. One thing for sure. We are seeing Harkeys that entered USA very late. For instance Phillip Harkey born in France in 1850 married to Lucy born in Spain. They were living in New Orleans ,LA. That really floored me.
