Dear Donna and the HARKEY list, Donna, do you have Solomon HARKEY's will, written in Mecklenburg Co. NC probably abt 1877? It is available on microfilm from a Mormon Family History Center (film #1561634). I looked at it several years ago. It was so faint that I couldn't make a xerox of it, so all I have are some handwritten excerpts. I can't remember how clear the names were; I copied as accurately as I could. In the will, Solomon mentions wife LINCY[?] HARKY. He makes a special gift of $50 to son GREEN HARKEY "to make him equal with the rest. He gives some furniture to daughter ELVIRA. "I then will all the rest of my property be sold and be equally divided among all my children. Also, the land at my wife's decease shall be sold and its proceeds equally divided between all my children." He designates two sons, M. L. HARKEY and M. J. HARKEY, as executors. The witnesses are M. L. HARKEY, M. J. HARKEY, and W. R. DAVIS. The 1850 Mecklenburg Co. census shows eight children born by 1850. Probably you can find more by checking the 1860 and even the 1870 censuses. Unfortunately, I don't have access to them. Perhaps someone else on the list can give you those entries. 1850 NC Mecklenburg Co. Sardis Dist. p 85, hh 1395?
