I replied that after looking things over, I believe that John Harkey that married Sarah Walcher in 1811 was the son of Jacob Harkey and Catherine Teter. I base this on the knowledge that John was born 1788-1789 from IL census records and Jacob was born 1768 which would be just about right agewise. Jacob's brothers John lived in Mecklenberg Co., and Henry lived in Rowan Co. while David lived in both Mecklenberg and Cabarrus Co., however he was too young to have had this John, Martin Luther Jr. was born 1771 which would make him approximately 16 when John was born. Therefore, since John, b. 1788-1789 was married in Cabarrus Co., in 1811 and all of Jacob's other children were married there (from the marriage bonds) it is assumed he would be the first born child of Jacob and Catherine. What threw me for the longest time was Walter Sanders records had the other Harkeys in Bond Co., IL as coming from Iredell Co., NC. I assumed John did also but I could never put it together. We know that there were Harkeys from two counties that moved from NC to AR in 1839, why not Harkeys from two counties to IL in 1830? After all, they were cousins and most wagon trains traveled together for protection from the elements and the Indians a/k/a hostiles. If anyone has proof I am all wet, please let me know so I can correct my records now that I have moved John to Jacob's family. Sid
