Dear Mary, In reply to your question about John Harkey's children: Martin Luther who married Catherine Condor. They moved to Georgia and then Texas. He was born around 1789 in Mecklenburg Co. and died 1865 in Texas. Peter who married Margaret Drew. He was born in 1792 in Mecklenburg Co. NC and died in 1869 in Mecklenburg Co. NC Daniel David who married Mary Benkston. He was born in Mecklenburg Co. NC in 1797 and died in 1858. My record says he went to Georgia. I will add to my record that he died in Missouri. Solomon who married Linney B. He was born in 1801 in Mecklenburg Co NC and died 1887 in Mecklenburg Co. NC. I know this is true because I know where he and his wife are buried at Morningstar Luthern Church and I have seen the graves. Joshua who married Trissee Hooks. He was born in 1805 in Mecklenburg Co NC and died in ? He was listed as a member of Morningstar in 1830, Mecklenburg Co. NC Mathias who married Elizabeth Starnes. He was born in 1813 in Mecklenburg Co. NC and died in 1850. I believe he is also buried at Morningstar, Mecklenburg Co. NC Susannah who was born 1815 and died 1820 in Mecklenburg Co. NC Many of the sources that I have found have a son John Harkey Jr. This may be true but my direct line comes from a John Harkey Sr. ( note Sr.) who was born in 1796 and died in 1883 in Mecklenburg Co NC. He married Sarah Baker and she had all his children and she died in 1844 at which time a few months later he married a Hannah Baker. I know this because I have the marriage bonds. John Harkey Sr. had John Fulwood Harkey and Elizabeth Matilda who were twins in 1831. He also had Ambrose born in 1825, and Clark Washington born in 1829. I know this is a documented fact because I have the family Bible that starts with John Harkey Sr and Sarah . Also I have the marriage licenses and will of John Harkey Sr. John Sr was my grgrgr grandfather. I know where they are buried and as a matter of interest, a cousin and I are adding a footstone to John Fulwood and Drucilla Jane because the toombstones are knocked over and are becoming unreadable. Rather that move the pieces of these we chose not to bother them but to add footsones with the information. John Sr. is also buried next to John Fullwood. My problem with my line is that I cannot figure out who the father of John Sr. is. It cannot be John like you have it . I am thinking it may be Henry Harkey, but I have no idea. Old Martin and Catherine deeded land to Henry and John, so since I believe that my grgrgr grandfather is not a son of John and Elizabeth I have only Henry left . It is very confusing to me. Any help will be appreciated. I live around a lot of Harkeys here in Union Co. but good family records have not been kept. I guess I have the oldest record in the form of the family bible.
