Hello Nancy, Alma, and Mary, and all of us Harkey researchers, I know that the few of us have shuttled this JOHN d. 1796 and was father of Sidney Levi Harkey, around most of the summer. Either we have incomplete, incorrect or intermixwed information. PLEASE anyone in our interest group who might have additional information on this part of the line post it. I still wonder if when researchers discovered the NC early records that somehow HARKEY families were accidently assumed to all be of the same immigramt and in truth there were errors made. No specifics here----only a thought for all of us to unfold this mystery. My Henry, a son of Martin, had a John d. 1846, b. unkown(another ?), but the dates don't match for Nancy's John. Also, is is stated that Nancy's John came from Switzerland--- It seems to be believed that the Johannes Herche on the Lydia came from Germany or Holland. Perhaps he lived in Switzerland, traveled through Germany and sailed from Holand and the origin depended upon who was telling the story!
