    3. Hello Harkeys: This is my first introduction. I'm enjoying hearing about you! In response to one of the emails: I am from a different strain of the Harkey family. Some of the names are the same, but the connections are unclear. I am a desdendant of Martin HARKEY -- b. Switzerland abt 1750. He had a son John HARKEY -- b. Cabarras County, NC abt 1769, d. abt 1796, NC. He married Elizabeth DOUB, who as John's widow m. [ ? ] EFRID, probably NC. John and Elizabeth had a son John HARKEY, b. Cabarras County, NC 1789, d. 1865 in IL. This son John m. Sarah WALCHER b. 1790 in NC, d. 1861 in IL. In 1830 they moved to Hillsboro, Montgomery Co., IL. John and Sarah HARKEY had six children: Simeon Walcher HARKEY 1811 - 1889 (IL) Pres. IL State Univ. 1856+ Ann Margaret HARKEY m. Aaron BARRINGER (IL) James Michael HARKEY 1819 -1875 Luth. minister in IL Nancy Maria HARKEY Daniel Valentine HARKEY (Is this where the "V" comes from that Alma Johnson wonders about?) Sidney Levi HARKEY 1827 - 1901 (my great-great grandfather and I have a lot of information on him.) Lutheran minister in PA, IL, IN, OH, again PA. Sidney L. HARKEY m. Mary Jane JENKINS in 1848. They had eight children. Their daughter, Grace Augusta HARKEY m. Charles F. EICHER in 1880. Ohio. Their daughter, Edna Grace EICHER (my grandmother) m. Charles OLSEN in 1900. OH. Their only child, Grace Margaret OLSEN, m. James A. RICKERT in 1922. OH & MI. They had four children. I am the youngest, Nancy Anne, m. to Sherwin J. BROERSMA, MI in 1960. We have lived in IL, FL, MI, and now on Long Island, NY. I hope this information will be helpful to someone and that others may have some info to share with me! Nancy
