Hello Group, I have a question. I know Margaret Nan Harkey is related to Eli Columbus Harkey from past e-mails and hopefully she, or someone else from that line can tell me when Eli and family moved to Oklahoma. Eli was son of Levi, and born 10 July 1850. Also, does anyone have the death date from his tombstone. I know Margaret Nan saw the tombstones, but was going to go back and check for the dates. Have not heard if she was able to get back to do this. I have a copy of an old letter dated Oct 8th, 1895. Emma Dooly Harkey is writing her mother who lived at FT. Braggs, Indian Territory (present day Braggs, Muskogee Co., Oklahoma). Emma and family had just returned from a visit to her parents home in Ft. Braggs and she says, " We never come by Uncle Eli's. We drove right through to home". >From the letter I know Emma and William Harkey lived in Logan County, AR. and looking at the route I can't help but wonder where Eli and family were living in October of 1895. Perhaps they were still in AR., but where did they live? If they lived in Harkey Valley Emma would not have driven there. It would have been past her home to the east. So...... Eli had to live to the west of Emma. Was it in Oklahoma? It could not have been at Madill where he died, because that is several hundred miles southwest of Braggs, and they would not have gone that way. Does anyone know if Eli lived in Oklahoma on the route to Braggs before he moved to Madill? Thanks, Flora The
