    3. Hello Mary, That must be where we got that death date. Thanks. It appears to me there has to be some error here because they would have shown up on the census if he were alive, and if he was alive, then where were they in 1880 and who is this Catherine, a widow? Hopefully someone who descended from them will tell us. It seems that they moved Catherine Furr Harkey's grave in 1935 but left Mr. Harkey in his unmarked grave and the ball field was put over him. 3. Woops, I was wrong, it does list her as a Widow. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Now we know that Israel was dead and we have the wrong death date on him. Thanks so much. I will go back today and look through my old paper records and see where I got the death date for Israel SR. 3. Hello Nina, On the Israel N. record someone copied the middle Initial wrong or the census taker took it down wrong. He is Israel Mathias Harkey, Jr., son of Israel SR. He married Canzada Jane Gunter and on this census record it list her as C. Jane, wife. The children fit for what I have on them too. 1. [HARKEY-L] 1880 Census question
    2. Flo
    3. Hello List, This census record for Joseph M. Harkey is confusing. Looking at it I see there are children listed as step-children by the last name of Man. There is no way those children could be the children of Henierita Jackson, wife of Joseph M. Harkey and the step-children of Joseph M. Harkey. They are almost as old as Henierita. Is there anyone from the family of Joseph M. and Henierita Jackson Harkey on this list? Hopefully you can help us straighten this out. Who were those Man children on the 1880 census? Also, two of Joseph M. Harkey's sisters married men by the name of Hall. One of them, Nancy Jane, married John Hall. We have her death date as 1873. This fits for there to be some of her children living with her brother, but......... the boy, John M. Hall, listed as nephew of Joseph M. Harkey on this census is listed as age 5. That does not fit a death date for Nancy of 1873. Does anyone know if these Hall children are the children of the sister, Nancy Jane, who married John Hall, or if they are the children of her sister, Sarah C. who married David Hall.? Notice that David and Sarah are listed on the 1880 census I sent. Can anyone help me out here and tell me who these children belong to? Thanks and the census record in question is pasted below. 3. Hello List, This is to Laurey. I do not know if she is on our Harkey list, but I wanted the list to have this information since it pertains to the second marriage of Wilson Monroe Harkey's wife, Mary Ellen "Polly" Wiggins. I found Mary Ellen and her second husband, Edward Real on the 1880 US census in San Saba, Texas: Census Place: Precinct 4, San Saba, Texas Source: FHL Film 1255326 National Archives Film T9-1326 Page 432B Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Ed REAL Self M M W 52 TN Occ: Farmer Fa: VA Mo: VA Ellen REAL Wife F M W 45 AR Occ: Keeping House Fa: VA Mo: VA Hanner REAL Dau F S W 15 TN Occ: At Home Fa: TN Mo: AR Edward REAL Son M S W 13 AR Fa: TN Mo: AR Licurgus REAL Son M S W 6 AR Fa: TN Mo: AR >From the ages of the first two children listed it appears they are children of Edward by his former wife. Is this correct? Edward Real and Mary Ellen "Polly" Wiggins were married in 1869. Real in Arkansas in 1873. She was born in Arkansas in June, 1832 and lists her parent's birthplace as Virginia for both. Ellen may have also gone by the name Mary Ellen. > > She gave birth to my grandfather, Licurgus, late in the same year she married I believe, as my grandfather's birthdate in November 1873. Ellen was 41 when she married Edward, and gave birth to two children, Licurgus and another child of which I have no information. > > Edward was married prior to Ellen and fathered more than a few children by his first wife. 3. I hope that any of you who get to attend that celebration in Carlsbad will take photos and share them with those of us who want to see this event and who are unable to attend. I would love to see the historic display but doubt they will let anyone take pictures of their pictures <G> Mary Harkey Russell bird@scrtc.com http://www.scrtc.com/~bird

    3. > | > | Now I'm wondering: What if Rhoda's middle name is ELLEN??? > | Moses I Harkey took as his second wife Rhoda Parham Wiggins a widow of Madison Wiggins. Rhody had one son Richard. He is the 8 year old showing on the census that Mary Fowler Leek sent. The John age 1 is the first child of Mose and Rhody- He grew up to marry Mary Elizabeth Tucker. The James T. on that census is my Grandfather James Thomas Harkey who was the son of Mose and first wife Nancy Jane McCarley daughter of Abraham. James Thomas Harkey married Mary Magdaline Madden, daughter of George W. The William on the census is also a son by the first wife. Billy married Emma Caroline Dooley. The Louisa age 13 was Louisa Emeline born in 1857. I don't know what happened to Louisa???????? Sarah A. age 15 was Sarah Ann Delphenia Harkey who married Thomas Jefferson Gunter and they went to San Saba Texas. Mose Harkey seems to have done a good job in picking good women for his wives. Each one, after the first one died, raised the children from the last wife. His last one Jane Moore, didn't have any children by him but was highly respected and loved by all the adult children, and grandchildren. Jane Moore Harkey died in 1933 and my father and aunts considered that she was their "real" Grandma. Mary Harkey Russell bird@scrtc.com
