    1. [HARKEY-L] Who are these Harkey girls?
    2. Flo
    3. Hello List, Can anyone tell me who Sarah C. Harkey is? She married James P. ( I think this stands for Perry) Stafford, age 39, on 24 November, 1868 in Yell County. She was age 27 and would have been born about 1841. I do not find any a Sarah C. born about 1841 in any of my Harkey information and I do not find any Sarah C. in my file who married a Stafford. And can you tell me which Harkey girl married Ambers Moudy? They lived in Yell County. I do not find a marriage record for an Ambers Moudy to a Harkey, and I find nothing in my records that he married a Dooly. I find am Ambrose Moudy on the census, but his wife was born in TN, so I do not think she was a Harkey. Who was Ambers Moudy and who did he marry? I have an old letter dated August 13, 1894 and Emma Caroline Harkey, wife of William Monroe Harkey wrote it. She tells her parents: "Well Pa, can tell you that olde Uncle Perry Stafford is dead. Also, Uncle Ambers Moudy is dead. Mrs. Stafford is gone to her boys". Emma wrote of other deaths in other letters, and did not refer to them as Uncle or Aunt unless they were family. Here is the 1880 census on James P. Stafford and Sarah C. 3. Alma, you said you had read the , was it 50 and 60? census? I can check on those to see if you copied things correctly, but it would be really helpful if I had County, Township....etc. I look at Ancestry.com online images..... lets see if we can find the years again ----- Original Message ----- From: <Junco9@aol.com> To: <nhark@tc3net.com>; <HARKEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 22, 2001 5:55 PM Subject: Re: [HARKEY-L] Anna Regina vs Regina > Nina, thanks for the reminder. 2. Paul Harkey's wife's name in the 1850 NC census is LEANA, not Leanna. I keep doubling the N in spite of knowing better. Must be the Anna virus. Alma

    1. [HARKEY-L] Anna Regina vs Regina
    2. Nina Harkey
    3. Keep in mind, Anna was a very commonly used baptismal name that would drop off after baptism. some records may have kept the name, others may have dropped it. So, example.... Anna Regina would become Regina after baptism, and often take a confirmation name later... So Anna Regina becomes Regina, then becomes Regina <confirmation name of choice> later. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Junco9@aol.com> To: <HARKEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 22, 2001 2:03 PM Subject: Re: [HARKEY-L] Henry? > Hi Mary-- > > > I have Regina Dry's name as Anna Regina Dry???? > > So far we don't seem to have any proof that Anna and Regina are or aren't the > same person;

    2. Hi Mary-- > I have Regina Dry's name as Anna Regina Dry???? So far we don't seem to have any proof that Anna and Regina are or aren't the same person; no one has come up with a second marriage for Paul. Does anyone else have evidence that Regina DRY's full name is Anna Regina DRY? Is it possible that, having seen Paul's wife as Anna in one place and Regina in another, you, or someone else, just put them together? (That's the sort of thing I'd do, thinking at the time that I'd remember why I did it.) If Leanna's age, 33, is correct in the 1850 census, she would have been born 1816-1818. If Leanna and Regina are the same person, that would have made her 12-14 when she got married. (Am I doing the arithmetic right?) That's pretty young, but not impossibly so. I've always thought Paul HARKEY was one of the most interesting HARKEYs around. Maybe I read too much between the lines; but his mother said some odd things about him in her will, and he went to Kentucky when apparently no other HARKEY did, and he ended up in Missouri one county away from my own ancestors. 2. Next to the tombstone of Catherine Harkey in the San Saba City Cemetery is a tombstone which reads Israel Mathias Harkey June 9, 1797 November 3, 1896 Here in Spirit but remains Interred at Rogan Field Nov. 3, 1896 appears to be the correct death date, doesn't answer the question of where he was when the 1880 census and why Catherine would have been listed as a widow.

    2. Nina, I have that marriage, too (Paul HARKEY & Regina DRY, Mar 1829). You asked where was your mistake. There doesn't have to be a mistake. Paul was of an age to have married Regina DRY in 1829 and someone named Leana sometime in the next 20 years. Note how much younger Leana is than Paul. It doesn't affect the question of marriage, but I notice that there is a 10-year discrepancy in Paul's age between 1850 and 1860. I copied the 1860 data ten years ago. I may have mistyped it. Argh.

    2. Mary, You asked about who was the Kentucky HARKEY family, in regard to the ancestry of Henry HARKEY in Kentucky, giving the following information: Lilly Mae Harkey b. May 26, 1881 in Cooke Co.,Tx, d. Nov 6,1949 in Floyd Co.,TX. Her parents were Henry HARKEY, b 8 May1850 KY and Sarah BULLION, b abt 1853 KY Mary, this Henry HARKEY is a son of Paul HARKEY. 3. We may have trouble pin pointing the year of Death for Israel Mathias Harkey. In his book O. B. Harkey has 3 Nov.1896 with a question mark. That means he wasn't sure either. We already know he was buried in an unmarked grave and so there will be no stone to read unless they added a stone in 1935 when they moved Catherine? But by that time the date could have been forgotten. Does anyone have a family bible? Was there a will? Probate? Transfer of property? In the book Harkey Family Tree that was prepared for Vada Beatrice Harkey Schneider there is an Obituary for Catherine Furr Harkey. Catherine died 20 July 1892 at age 92 years and ll days old. It says she died at home of her daughter Mrs. Catherine McDaniel. It lists her six living children says she has 65 great grandchildren and 287 living relatives BUT it does not mention her husband at all. This same book gives a date of Israel Mathias' death as Nov 3, 1896 saying that he was buried at Odd Fellows Cem. This current site later became known as the high school football field known as Rogan Field The graves moved to what is now known as City Cemetery. There is a letter written from NC by Well Endy Will Eudy? 1890 to Mrs I. M. Harkey and family. No mention of Mr Harkey ., We need more data. Mary Harkey Russell bird@scrtc.com
