    3. Hello list, Is there a descendant of John Harkey, son of Moses I. Harkey and Rhoda Parham Wiggins Harkey, on this list? This John was born about 1865 in Yell County, AR. and he died in 1912. He was fishing with a seine in the Petit Jean River in Arkansas. His boots caught in the net and he drowned. John and Mary Elizabeth Tucker Harkey had four children that died at birth. One of their baby boys, name unknown, is buried at Booneville by his parents graves. I don't know where the other three babies are buried or when they died. I know from an old letter they lost a child on 14 Oct. 1895 and the child is buried in Harkey Valley Cemetery without a marker. I do not know if this was one of the babies his family told me about years ago, or if it was another of his children. His full sister, Lydia Harkey was my grandmother. Years ago I corresponded briefly with one of John's grandsons, John Leach Harkey, II. John Leach Harkey was a son of Newman Defo Harkey and Olive Flora Leach. I would love to make contact with any of the descendants of this family. If any of you are on this list, or if anyone on the list knows where I can reach any of the family please contact me. Thanks, Flora John and Elizabeth later had two sets of twin boys that lived.

    3. Thanks Mary, That is wonderful information. The death date jives with this old letter I have, so I think we can all say the Uncle Perry Stafford Emma wrote about is this James P. Stafford who married Sarah C.Harkey. I think from what Mary Russell, Judith, Pat, Alma and some others sent we can say for certain Sarah C. is the daughter of Moses M. Harkey. Thanks a million to all of you for working on this and answering my question. Mary, do you happen to have anything in the cemetery records showing a death date for Ambrose Moudy? Emma may have spelled his name wrong in this old letter. If we had a death date for him, and if it is close to the date of this old letter then we could say for sure it was Ambrose instead of Ambers Moudy. Then we need to find out who Ambrose married. From the book "Marriages of Yell County, Arkansas 1831-1900" by The Yell County Historical and Genealogical Society I fine a marriage showing W. T. Moudy to Ida Harkey, but she was a cousin to Emma Harkey's husband, and this would not have made him an Uncle, so I think Ambers or Ambrose Moudy would have had to marry one of the older Harkey girls. Also in the same marriage book I see: A. William A. Moudy to Mrs. Lizzie Thomas on 2 Aug. 1878, but find in the Thomas marriages; Lizzie Dawson to James H. Thomas 25 Feb. 1866. This appears to be the (MRS.) Lizzie Thomas who married the Moudy. So........ it appears she was not a Harkey but a Dawson. And that brings me back to my original question last night, who is this Uncle Ambers (Ambrose) Moudy?? Thanks, Flora ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Fowler Leek" <mleek@bellsouth.net> To: <HARKEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 28, 2001 6:16 PM Subject: Re: [HARKEY-L] Stafford / Harkey marriage > | This marriage information can be found in the following source: > | > | Yell County Historical & Genealogical Society. Harkey and wife Eleanor Fink had a daughter Sarah Ann Catherine Harkey born Dec. 1840 who I have married a Stafford. Of course as usual I haven't a bit of information as to where I got that ! Mary Harkey Russell bird@scrtc.com >> I really don't have anything. I have only what you have and I don't have Sarah's husband. What I do have is that she died in Stafford, Yell Co, AR. I checked on my geonames to see if there was a Stafford and there is. I wondered if I had copied something wrong. That is William T Moudy married Lorena - had a son, Oscar Pat McAlister

    3. When I was 18 months old, we lived in Stafford. You know where it is now? <G> It is under Spring Lake, It was a little settlement. People who were building the dam lived in that area. When the lake filled up it covered the settlement. My brother who is 77 now remembers it well. My father James Cleason Harkey Sr. was a foreman working on the dam. I have photos of the construction. I am also sending this to the Yell Co. List in case someone can help us with the Stafford surname. Mary Harkey Russell bird@scrtc.com Original message part----------- talking about area and people : STAFFORD--- >Moses M. Harkey and wife Eleanor > Fink had a daughter Sarah Ann Catherine Harkey born Dec. 1840 who I have > married to a Stafford. Good night. . . . Alma
