Our ancestor William HANDLEY was born (according to his marriage cert.) about 1835, a foundling, parents unknown, possibly in England according to family story. He married Mary HOLMES in Glasgow 1860 and the rest of the family are thereafter of Scottish descent. I assume this is a genuine brickwall and that we may never get any further back in time but thought I would ask the list for any suggestions - if any - as to any possible avenues of research. William was a weaver by trade and he and his wife Mary were the last hand loom weavers in Kirkintilloch. His marriage cert gives name as HANSLEY, signature on his son's marriage cert. "Wm.
