Thank you Carol Ann for all that wonderful Handley information. I will have to put the families onto family group sheets in order for it to make sense to me. I have been able to document my ancestor, George Handley, son of James. When he left Butler Co with his wife Margaret, they had several small children. I have a copy ofhis certificate of land ownership in Henry Co IN, 1820, signed by Pres. James Buchanan. I found he and his family in the 1830 IN census, but in 1840, Margaret was living alone in Decatur Co IN. In 1860 she was living with their son Robert and his wife Nancy and children, and his son Evan James Handley - my ancestor - was living nearby. My thinking is that George had died. However, I have never found any other siblings to my ancestor Evan, which might explain the reasoning they went West. I was told by a genealogist in Decatur Co that Margaret and George were also buried in the same cemetery as Robert and Nancy, but I have not as yet been able to travel there to see for myself. Again - thank you for putting this on the Handley Line.
