Hello everyone, I have been on this list for a while and thought it was about time I posted my interests. My main interests are HANDLEYs from the Shropshire/Worcester border area in the 1750 to 1880 period. I am particularly interested in further information on Thomas HANDLEY and Ann GREEN married in Mamble 20 May 1792 which appears to be a submission to the IGI We think Thomas was born 4 May 1766 in Burford to William and Ann. There are many HANDLEYS in this area and the records go back to the 1500's but we can not connect two lines even though they live in the same small village at the same time. My family who descend from Thomas and Ann are William HANDLEY who had 9 children in Knighton upon Teme where he was the schoolmaster and a farmer and also seemed to dabble in legal matters and medicine. He used to "bleed" people. I think this relates to the practice of cleansing wounds using leaches. The children of William went many ways. Edmund and Alfred to London where in the 1881 census Edmund was a successful draper and Alfred a Drapers assistant. Henry bought back the family farm Tan House in Knighton upon Teme. William Edwin was a carpenter in St Martins in Herefordshire and Helen married James MEAKIN and moved to a farm in Australia ( My line). If anyone knows anything else about this family or are descendants I would really appreciate hearing from you. regards Chris Bartlett in Auckland New Zealand.
