Hi List, I have now, at last, found out a bit about our Hanley's so here is what I know about them. William Hanley was born in Roscommon, Ireland c 1832. He married a Hannah & I believe she could well have been Hannah McConway of Donegal. My reason for believing I have the right Hannah here is that I have them in the 1881 census in Glasgow (which is where they emigrated too) & all the children in the census line up with what is in the IGI. I knew about a couple of them & the IGI gave me 2 more that had probably died. The mother was any of the following in all cases, Hannah McConway, Hannah Conway, Hannah McConnoway, & for only one Ann Conway. All of the children are in the census bar the two whop I think died. I also found a marriage for William Hanley & Hannah Conway 17 Dec 1854 in Glasgow. Hannah McConway, in the IGI was born to Daniel McConway & Isabella Tonner 17 Dec 1832. The date is out but only by 2-3 years. they were married in Donegal in 1830. I don't have any proof as yet but I do feel confident about them. McConway is not a common name like Conway. I am yet to get the certificate for William Hanley & Hannah McConways marriage but I intend to do it. So we have; William Hanley c 1832 IRE married Hannah McConway c 1832 IRE 1854 in Glasgow, SCT CHILDREN William Hanley 15 August 1857, Central Dist, Glasgow Annie Hanley 18 December 1859, " " " (census) Sarah Hanley 1861 " " " James Hanley 25 March 1866 " " " (census) Hannah Hanley 19 March 1869 High Church " Mary Hanley 27 May 1871 " " " (census) William Hanley 25 June 1874 " " " (census) I believe the first William died as there was another son named William 17 yrs later. This is our Line. William Hanley b 1874 married Martha McNeilage b 1877 (not in the IGI but in the census with all her family) CHILDREN Martha Hanley DOB unknown Hannah Hanley c 1897 Glasgow (out line) William Hanley (know as Sonny) c1900 - 1943 Jean Hanley (Jeannie) DOB unknown Grace Hanley DOB unknown Lily Hanley DOB unknown Emily Hanley DOB unknown I only know about these children from Hannah's son & daughter & that is from memory only. There was definitely only one boy & he died in an accident, at the age of 43. I have a photo of his headstone. Martha is reported to be the eldest. Hannah was sent photos of Jeannie, Emily & Lily & I suspect there is one of Martha & Grace but it is unnamed. There is also one of a Ruby. One of Hannah daughters was named Ruby, maybe after this Ruby. Hannah Hanley came out to Australia & married Charles Frederick McInnes Sept 30 1922 at the Manse of the Preston Presbyterian Church. As Charles was from Manangatang up near Mildura, I suspect that they married on the way back to the farm after picking her up from the ship. Well that is all I have for the moment so I hope you see something you recognise. I do also have details of the McNeilage family if it is of interest to you. Naturally I have info on the McInnes's too. Carolyn McInnes
