My name is Melissa Handley and I am trying to figure out a good way to trace my family history on my father's side. The problem is that nearly everyone is dead, so I don't have a living history now. Basically, the story goes like this... My grandfather and all his brothers (and there might have been some sisters, too) and their parents immigrated here from Poland in the early 1900s. (I know that you're saying to yourself that Handley is hardly a Polish name...) As the story goes, each of the brothers chose a new name when they arrived in the US to "blend in more". From what I understand, there were at least 2 who chose Handley. My dad says that their original name was Warshawski (I'm not sure of the spelling). I'm not sure where the family started out, but my grandfather ended up on the West Coast in Washington and Oregon. As far as I know, I haven't ever met any great uncles or aunts on my dad's side, so they may very well have not moved West. And my grandfather die! d in the 1970s. So, my question to all of you: Is there anyone out there who has a family history similar to mine? Does this story sound familiar to anybody? Any thoughts, ideas, questions, comments, concerns, etc. are welcomed. Thanks for your help!
