    1. [HANDLEY-L] Hanley in NYC/NJ in 1800's
    2. Edward R Bremer
    3. Hi folks, I'm glad to see that there are some others researching Hanley in the New York City / northern New Jersey area. Perhaps you have some information that ties in with these names. My g grandparents, Michael HANLEY and Susan O"NEILL were married on October 18, 1885 at St Cecilia Church in Englewood, Bergen County, New Jersey. They had two children - Michael Edward HANLEY born September 8, 1886 and Denis HANLEY born December 8, 1887. Both sons were baptized at this church. I believe both Michael and Susan were born in Ireland and emigrated to the USA. They probably landed in NY and may have lived there for a while before moving to NJ. Michael may have had a sister Ellen HANLEY who was a witness to his marriage to Susan. Ellen was also a sponsor when Denis was baptised. Later, Susan married a man named Daniel Small and they remained in Englewood. I'm hoping to obtain more information about Michael and Susan and these branches of the family. Please let me know and I'm willing to share. Thanks Ed ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! 3. Finally someone who just may connect to my Handley's. I am searching for Handley's who lived in New York. They originated in England. I have a Samuel Handley born in England who had three sons and three daughters, some or maybe all of which came to America. I am only sure of one and he was W.T. or William, married to a Barbara and they lived in Brooklyn at the same home all of their lives. In a letter I have from them, they mention going to Florida and they mention Wills widow Dorothy. I don't know who Will is. I have checked census and I can't find any children for William and Barbara. I have pictures with the names Suzie, and Nellie and Beverly Hills written on them. Our Samuel Handley who was the father of William settled with a new wife in Minnesota and I believe there were other Handley's there as well. I have been up against a brick wall for several years now. If not, some of you may want to consider joining that list as well as ours. Just in case.... My great-great-grandfather was named Josiah HANLEY HILL. He was born around 1810 in S.C. I don't know his mother's name, but she was suppose to have been born in Va. according to one census. Eg see http://lcweb.loc.gov/z3950/ Does anyone have, or know how to find an on line catalogue for libraries in Ireland, particularly Roscommon? I thought we may be able to find the names of local histories of villages etc which may help in research. Certainly in Australia I have been able to get a lot of cooperation in getting book indexes transcribed as a research tool and getting lists of relevant books. See www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/books.html and some of the links from that page including library catalogues, indexes and the transcription project. If we each bought/borrowed one book and put the index on line (eg on a page in the Leitrim Roscommon web page if the site owners were happy to host it) we could get a couple of hundred indexes on line in no time, maybe even get privately published authors to agree to having their whole book put on line for download in PDF format. We already have Pete Hanly's manuscript available for download from the Hanly history page on Bellingen Gen Web http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/archive/hanlyhistory.html Any one else willing to do this? Any one have URL's for Irish/Roscommon library catalogues? Cheers Paul Hanly Rhodes, Sydney, Australia >>
