Dear Sharon: I just happen to have an 1840 Madison Co. IL census page that has a Matthew Handley on it. You might want to look in an index to see if your Mitchell is located around there as well. James Handley is correect and he was also married to Casandra Cooley Sarah Handley did marry Caleway Milsap but I show May 1 1834- I am surprise at Clay Co as Caleway was a large land owner in Atchison co. and came there as a youg man. Mary handley and Asa Jackson not Asia is correct.
