Hope this helps. BUENA VISTA Ship: 547 tons: 141' x 29' x 15' Built: 1848 at Newburyport, Massachusetts With 249 Welsh Saints aboard, the full-rigged Buena Vista sailed out of Liverpool harbor on 25 February 1849. Elder Dan Jones presided over the company. He was one of the most successful Mormon missionaries and had been a close friend of Joseph Smith. Master of the vessel was Captain Eben H. Linnell. Thomas Jeremy, one of the emigrants, gave this description of the voyage: "We had fine weather and fair wind every day. Indeed it was much more a pleasure trip than I expected. In one part of the ship musicians were playing while in other parts, good books were being read and studied. Others were conversing about our country and success of the Gospel in Wales. We held prayer meetings nearly every night instead of family prayer." After this uneventful passage, the ship arrived at New Orleans on 19 April. The company continued up the Mississippi and Missouri rivers to Council Bluffs, but many of the Saints suffered with cholera. Hailing out of Boston, Massachusetts, the Buena Vista was a two-decker with a square stern and billethead. This three-master plied the seas for forty-one years. She was later rigged as a bark and hailed out of Port Townsend, Washington, where she was condemned and sold in 1889.
