I agree with all of you and your comments on not submitting the entire family to AF. It is things like that that end up creating all the duplicate entries on AF and create confusion for the many researchers trying to trace the same ancestral lines. Unfortunately, many think that AF is complete and do not do further research on the families to verify what information they have found. >I heard a man in the Salt Lake Library telling a companion of his >"let their own family do for 'em"! That one made me chuckle, I could almost picture you being drug out of the library kicking and screaming all the way. :-) I do echo your sentiment. I wonder how he would feel if the tables were turned and one of his descendants said the same about himself and his wife and family? What a terrible feeling and opinion to have about his ancestors and their families. >Let's all do all that we can do, and not worry too much about >duplicating or who's ancestors they are or are not. I would rather be chastized on the otherside for doing a few extra names or accidentally doing the work for someone twice than for not doing any at all ! Of course accuracy is the key, but we are only human and errors will occur. One can always make the choice of submitting the direct family relations to a family file and the more removed family relations to a temple file. The main thing is to submit the names and have the work done. When I do my Swedish research I find my direct ancestors and their children, then I research the childrens spouses and families, the same for the grandchildren, gr grandchildren and on down the line until I run out of records. I am careful not to cross the "95 year barrier" but my father was the only one in his family to join the church and so far I have never found anyone researching in the same parish as I am. I would feel terrible if I did not submit complete families both to AF and to the temples for ordinances. That to me would be the same as choosing one of your children over the other. All are equal and should be given the same chance.
