    2. Call Mel Bashore at the LDS Church Historical Dept. in SLC. (801) 240-2745. He has researched and made a database of authors/titles of diaries, journals, remiscences, etc. organized by year and company. I think they are going to publish this list soon. I looked at all the published sources and some of the archive material for all 1860 companies in doing my research on the 9th handcart company, but don't recall anything on the Murphy company offhand. But I would still check with Mr. Bashore. An older version of his list is on microfilm at the FHL, but he is constantly updating it as more material is discovered. Some of the unpublished diaries are in other repositories in Utah. But again, I don't recall anything for the Murphy company. It doesn't hurt to ask! If you have the Pioneer Heritage CD, search using key words "1860" and "Murphy." You might turn up some references to members of that company. I found some information on 9th HC people by searching "1860". You get a lot of stuff you don't want when you search by year only, so I'd try the combination first. Good luck. If you do find anything on Murphy's company, let me know. I'd be interested in comparing their journey to the handcart company, since they traveled so closely together. Lynda The 9th HC company was about a day ahead of the Murphy wagon train. Robert Stoney's diary mentions that the captain (my gg-grandfather) and the commisary clerk road back to borrow flour from Murphy's company. The two companies stayed within a day or two the rest of the way to the valley. ____________________Reply Separator____________________ Subject: [HANDCART-L] Murphy Ox train Co. Author: "S.E. Bailey Fassbender" <sebailey@itis.com> Date: 8/13/98 7:57 AM Hi! Does anyone know if there are any written accounts of Capt. Jesse Murphy's ox train company which arrived in Salt Lake on Aug. 30, 1860. I've read "Handcarts to Zion," but would like info. on the ox train companies. My ancestors, Ann Gillian BAILEY and her daughter, Betsy, were with Murphy's company. Thanks! Sara
