    1. Re[2]: [HANDCART-L] Ancestral File, etc!!
    2. Agree. Don't forget, many siblings died young or didn't marry, so they don't have direct descendants to do the work for them. Another AF problem I've noticed a lot: duplicate wives/husbands. Sometimes you'll find two or more spouses with the same or similar name, different marriage dates, etc. That's why I create a temporary file for GEDCOMs from AF, so I can check these errors. But sometimes AF doesn't have the other spouses at all! I had been long puzzled by an AF marriage record (and old FGR) record for my great-great-grandmother's sister. According to these records, Catherine Henderson (b. abt 1840) married Matthew Savage (no date). Catherine was living in Porterville UT with her widowed father in the 1880 census and was listed as single. The only Matthew Savage in Utah from 1860 & up had another family and wasn't living anywhere near the Hendersons, so I assumed this was an error. I recently got the microfilm for birth/marriage/death records for Morgan Co. Lo and behold, Catherine married Matthew Savage in 1895. Checking AF for Matthew, I only find him with first wife and several children; no marriage to Catherine. As Matthew died in Idaho, I'm now off to look for 1900 census records. Perhaps some of Catherine's brothers who "disappeared" ended up in Idaho. Just goes to show, sometimes AF can be right even when you think it's wrong!
