    1. [HANDCART-L] Bounces to list
    2. Eldon & Terri Jensen
    3. Hi all: I have received bunches and bunches of bounces from HANDCART subscribers. I don't know what is going on or if this is even going to reach those affected. Probably not, but this is the best way to reach everyone that I know. Something has happened to cause this and after 4 bounces a person will be automatically unsubbed. If that happens to you, just resub. That's if you know about the 'unsub'. If you get to the point where you are not receiving HANDCART mail, either holler at me to see if you are still 'with us' or just send in a 'subscribe' command again. If you have been dropped you will receive back the welcome message. When this happens, your unsubscribe notice can actually bounce back to me and you will have no idea you were dropped. This happened to me on Saturday with one of my lists....my own list ;) If you try to post and receive a 'not on the accept list' notice, this means that you were unsubbed. Don't get upset, since it happens to the best of people (me ;) and is just a computer thing. Other than that all seems to be okay now. However, I certainly hate to see the 'drop' rate continue of about 5 to 6 of you per day. This is too many good researchers to lose from one list. I have hollered (loud but politely) at the systems admin and hope to get it all cleared up. Terri

    3. I have the CD "LDS Emigrant Roster & Voyage History 1840-1869", which involvesships leaving Liverpool, London, and Hamburg, and arriving at New York, New Orleans, Boston, and Philadelphia during the years noted above. This disk gives the name of the vessels many of the emigrants used, as well as historical information concerning the voyages of those vessels. It also gives information concerning: LDS Scandanavian Lists 1854-1869 Perpetual Eimgration Fund Lists Handcart Pioneers LDS Pioneers / Sons of Utah Pioneers Emigrants on the ship BROOKLYN Australian Ships I know I am asking for it, but I will do lookups (time permitting). To do any I will need the name of the ancestor you are interested in, and it will be MOST helpful if you can provide such things as their parent's and/or siblings' names, the (approximate) age of your ancestor, etc... anything which I can use to tie your relative with the names on this research disk. 1. [HANDCART-L] Re: "Hats for Travis"
    2. Cballd
    3. To all who have inquired: Thanks to those who have sent hats to my son, Travis. He has just finished his first month of treatment and begins a new round of "chemo" tomorrow. He is doing okay with the treatment and is not too sick but has extremely low white blood counts. He will have four months of chemotherapy and one month of radiation and that will supposedly put him into remission. Other than worsening asthma-like conditions (he already had some asthma) he has had very few symptoms. They discovered the cancer when he had xrays after a ladder collapsed with him at work. The fall was scary but a blessing. He was in the second stage of cancer already so finding it now and getting the treatment started was imperative. He had no idea the hats were coming and called to tell me about them. The first hat that came was a pink hat from someone in New York and it had a note that said something like: "You can have it, I don't want it. It's too pink for me..." It was great! He had no idea what was going on. I've been able to just act interested and say nothing but when he called to tell me about one yesterday I started laughing so he knows that I had something to do with it, he's just not sure what yet. I will show him the email soon but it has just been fun to watch him wonder about it all. Thanks for your help in this different kind of "family" problem. I really appreciate it. Cindy Alldredge >>>original letter>>>>>>>>>> To all my internet friends: I am starting a drive to collect hats for my son who is losing his hair because of his chemotherapy treatment for cancer (Hodgkins Disease.) He is 26 years old and married with one and a half children. He has a great sense of humor and I want to do something to keep him smiling. What I am looking for are caps with logos - the kind used as promotions by companies and organizations. If you know of a company or group that would send one to him I would appreciate it. 1. [HANDCART-L] WILLIAM M. THOMPSON
    2. Donna Merrill
    3. William McMillan THOMPSON b 8 Mar 1821 in Limavady, Londonderry, Ireland. Married 20 Apr 1842 in Lanark, Glasgow, Scotland to Sarah BELL b. 9 Apr 1809 in Down County, Ireland, daughter of John and Sarah BELL. Thier children were: William M. b. 17 Mar 1845 in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., IL md. Sallie B. CRUTCHER Robert B. b. 31 Jan 1847 in Iowa md. Martha BRISTO Sarah I. b. 20 Jul 1849 in Deseret, Utah md. Thomas K. WILLSON John B. b. 30 May 1851 in Deseret, Utah md. Mary Emily GIST Hyrum B. b. 21 May 1853 d. 26 Jul 1856 in Salt Lake City, UT Joseph S. b. 6 Oct 1855 in Salt Lake City, Utah md. Mary Zoe PARDO. William MCMILLEN was born in Ireland and migrated to Glasgow, Scotland where he joined the LDS church in 1841. He met his wife who was also a member of the church. Church records there state they left for America. They left in 1843 on the bark Yorkshire and sailed into the Port of New Orleans 1843 and took a steamboat up river to Nauvoo. There he met a one Mercy Rachel (Fielding) THOMPSON widow of Robert Blashell THOMPSON and was sealed into the lineage of that family taking the name William McMillan THOMPSON. His patriarchial blessing states this even though he never met Robert B. THOMPSON. I assume he was to take care of Mercy and her child Mary Jane. There are no sealings in the Nauvoo Temple records to support this adoption or a probable plural marriage to William. There is very little information on William in the Nauvoo church or court records. Only a few mention's in the Millenial Star or Times and Seasons Newspapers which lists him as a clerk. William and his family left Nauvoo and went west in 1848 in the Heber C. Kimball Company of which he was a clerk. I beleive Mercy left in 1847 to Utah. William was a seventy and most of the time a clerk within his office. William took two other wives namely Ann GREEN and Emma PRICE. In 1860 he and Brigham Young had words and because of this William left the church around that time period. All of his first family went with him but his plural wives chose to stay. He bought land in Leavenworth Co., KS and lived his life out there dying in 1896. I have found no record of his excommunication. None of his family went back to the LDS church and how ironic that I met my husband in 1984 who was LDS and joined the Mormon Church in that same year. My grandfather talked about his grandfather being a Mormon so it was very satisfying to research this family. Should there be any descendants anywhere of William's marriage to his plural wives Ann GREEN and Emma PRICE I would be glad to correspond with them. Any information would be appreciated. 1. [HANDCART-L] SAMUEL THOMAS
    2. Eldon & Terri Jensen
    3. Hi all: Got a fun one here!! I just found out that my ggrandfather had an alias. I KNEW he was illegitimate. I knew that the family stories said he was a Teamster. But this new (old and well hidden by a family member ;) data is just thrilling! Does anybody relate or have further data on this SAMUEL THOMAS (real name Henry Sylvester Shandrew)? I am going to check out the info on the Family History Suite cd, but just had to send this query first in case there is somebody else with ties. His wife was Annie Sorensen Jensen born 1851/52 Denmark and who's family settled in Sanpete with all the other Danes in Little Denmark. She was the daughter of Soren Jensen and Maren Larsen. Their children were actually listed with the last name of THOMAS up until the point when Annie and Sylvester were sealed in the Manti Temple. Nobody has EVER made 2 + 2 = 4!! It has always come up to 3!! Henry used the alias Samuel Thomas until his last child was born in 1887. Somewhere between that date and the date of his Temple Marriage 1891 he found out the truth and changed his name to his birth name. Terri ============================== The 1880 United States Census for Utah, Utah County, South Cottonwood records show that SAMUEL THOMAS is the same person as Henry Sylvester Shandrew. SAMUEL THOMAS 1880 Utah Census (United States Census, County of Utah, South Cottonwood) Film #1255337 page 15 Enumeration Date 8 June 1880, Salt Lake City House #71 Family #125 THOMAS, Samuel male 28 head of household, married Occupation -- Teamster Place of Birth -- Germany Place of Birth father and mother -- Germany Wife -- Annie Occupation -- Keeping house Place of Birth -- Denmark Place of Birth father and mother -- Denmark Child -- Alice 3/12 (born March in Utah) [also listed on same sheet as a separate family (related or just neighbors??) is Swen Lovendahl, 45 head of house, storekeeper from Sweden, both parents from Sweden, house/family number 16/120, wife was Christina, 39, keeping house from Denmark.
