This evening my sister ask a question I couldn't answer. Maby someone on the list can answer it for me. Were any members of the Donner party members of the LDS church? Jerry R.
I am descended from James Sansome Bowers and Maria Lay that were in the very first handcart trip, Edmund Ellsworth Co. Roster 1st Co. They left Iowa on 9 June 1856 and James died 12 days later. Maria made the trip the rest of the way with about six kids the youngest being six according to the list. The names of the children are: (youngest) Shadrach, Isaiah, Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, Hezekiah, Sarah(twins), Joseph, Isabelle & Job Lay. I found the handcart info from the info I have gotten from this wonderful list. Maria died 8 Nov 1889 in Nephi, Juab County, Utah. Anyone related to these people? It would be fun to meet someone related. Thanks, Kathy

Don't know for sure about church membership, but had it not been for the Donner party cutting the brush and clearing the way, the '47 pioneers into Salt Lake Valley would never had made it in time to plant a crop. I am looking for Dr. M.F. Amos the information I have is he's from Canada. I was in the LDS family history center and he had submitted some of my family names into the system. I wanted to know how we are related or if he was just putting in the information. The family lines of John Stewart from Lossiemouth, Moray, Scotland 1816. I wanted to know if he has any more information. Thanks palen@uswest.net
Greetings I am researching my husband's line and find a dead end with Caroline Jacques Newton(born 25 Dec 1839). Family tradition says she and her mother Ann Jacques were in the Willie Handcart Company. They list John Newton as her father. The line stops here and the LDS Family History Suite has not provided any anwers. She married Levi Gifford Jr. and died 21 Mar 1881 in Idaho. I would love to hear from anyone that may be related or familiar with her. Also, we have MANY ancestors buried in Weston, Idaho and would like to ge in contact with someone from that area. Many thanks for any and all help Debbie Gifford in sunny but wet Arizona
In a recent posting the phrase 'Lehi Pioneer' was used. Could anyone please explain? The reason I ask is that one of my ancesters, John Lowe, born about 1843, of Foleshill, Warwickshire, England. disappeared between the 1881 census and the 1891 census of Foleshill. His Family are shown in both, but he is not there in 1891. There are two stories in the family. One says that he went to America during a gold rush and opened a gambling saloon. The other says that he joined the LDS Church and settled in a place called Lehi possibly in Ohio. Kevin.Lowe@Dial.Pipex.com Loughborough, England.
I have the information on GLINES that is on the LDS FAMILY HISTORY SUITE If any body knows of any other information like journals or records of their church involvement or anything I would love to have it or at least know exactly where to write and what to ask for. I am in some way related to any Glines that was in Utah. There was a John and Maria Glines in Hancock County Illinois that was my great great grandparents. I have very little information on them. Thanks for any help and information Joanna jelong@pacifier.com
Looking for decendants of Thomas Bullock, John Pack, Benjamin T. Mitchell, Beldon Reynolds, Azra Judd, George Freestone, Charles Bunce and Lucy Clayton. Have done little to no research on my LDS lines. Looking for "cousins". Thanks, Jan
Pioneer Indexes, (Male and Female) Washington County Utah (1852-1870) is now online at the Washington County Utah Genealogy and History site. These great indexes by Wesley W. Craig, Phd. and Roberta Blake Barnum include both male and female indexes so you can search by married or maiden name. Most entries include birthdate and place, spouse, year arrived in Dixie, and town settled. Some of the St. George indexes include marriage date and place. These indexes are located at: http://www.lofthouse.com/USA/Utah/washington/pioneers/main.html For those who missed the last announcement (or received a blank message) Wesley W. Craig has also permitted his Washington County cemeteries index to be included on this website. It is a wonderful resource and includes all cemeteries in the county. It is located at: http://www.lofthouse.com/USA/Utah/washington/cemetery/master.html In the next couple of weeks I will be adding the updates Wes has sent to each of the cemeteries. Some of these updates are significant (Silver Reef, Shivwits, etc.) I will let you know when they are all coded and online. Thanks for all of your support and please send histories or URL addresses of histories of Washington County pioneers to me so we can help each other research and learn more of the great pioneers of Dixie. In a message dated 98-04-02 13:25:28 EST, you write: << In a recent posting the phrase 'Lehi Pioneer' was used. Could anyone please explain? >> Sorry...Lehi is a small Utah county city....my ggfather, Joseph Dorton moved to the US from Stockport, Cheshire, England to Pennsylvania. He was converted in PA by two missonaries and then made the trek west. His wife died enroute. Brigham Young called him (because of his skills) to go to Lehi (about 40 miles south of SLC) and be the butcher for that settlement. He later ran the Pony Express and a mercantile store in town. He remarrie in Lehi to Martha Clayton, an English convert. Michele Brooks

You need to bring a pedigree chart and then they will see if they have any histories on file. They charge $.25 per page to copy, but the histories were well worth the money. They also have a picture index. If they have a picture of one of your ancestors, you can have a copy made. Hope this helps. Michael
During the past couple of weeks, we have had about 20 new subscribers to our list. We haven't had hardly any queries, though and so we have also had about 15 or so 'unsubs' from our list. If you have a pioneer ancestor that you are seeking information about, please post your queries. Don't get discouraged. Sometimes you will have a tremendous result and other times, you won't get a thing. Same thing that happens with any other research route. If anybody has not been helped in the past week or so on a query and would like some help (or a lookup) from the LDS Family History Suite, holler at the list. I am not working next week (SPRING VACATION...YAAAYYY!!) so will have a little time I can look. I learn so much each time I find something for someone else. One of these days somebody is going to stumble on a paper, book or something and remember that TERRI was looking for that line! (I'll cross my fingers ;) We have about 200 subscribers here now, so somebody might just be your cousin.
