I am looking for information on the ancestry of Caroline Farozine SKEEN (b. 4/15/1812 in Sumner Co., Tennessee; died 8/4/1875 in Panguitch, Utah). She was my grandmother's great-grandmother. Caroline was a wife of John Lowe Butler, who I believe was prominent among the early Utah pioneers. During the past several months, I have been fortunate to find some information about her father's side (Jesse Skeen (b. 11/20/1764). However, I have not found much on the background of her mother. My grandmother always told me that she was part Cherokee on her father's side. I am focusing on Caroline Farozine Skeen's line as a possible source for locating our American Indian ancestor. I had also heard that some of the Mormon's took Indian wives at some point during their migration. I suppose it is also possible that I am searching the wrong line and should look at John Lowe Butler. Can anyone provide advice or recommendations concerning this search? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My family tree is posted at > http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/e/r/i/Scott-F-Erickson/. Scott Erickson Manteca, CA
Could anyone please tell me if there is any possible way for the computer to just goof and send me my password for my HANDCART list when I haven't been accessing my admin page? Should I worry, or not? Does this mean that somebody was really trying to get the password? Should I make the effort to have my password changed or just leave it be? My HANDCART list is the only one of the four lists I manage that has been hit with all the spam garbage, so I am just a little paranoid. Advice? Hello, Can anyone help me in finding the marriage record of Thomas LENHAM and Ann Gillian BAILEY? Ann emigrated to Utah from England in 1856. I believe Thomas LENHAM was already there, although his death record indicated he also was from England. According to the Salt Lake census, he was living there in 1860. Would there be a church record showing when they married? Any help is appreciated! Other immigrant names from England who I have an interest in include: WRIGHT, FARMER, GILLIAN
DESCENDANCY OF JACOB RANSFORD COLBY with POSSIBLE connection to Hannah Colby I can't find the source for this information, but this is what I have for Jacob Ransford Colby. I even remember reading that he was always called "Ransford" and never Jacob. The LDS Vital Records Library in the LDS Family History Suite shows 2 more wives for him: Silvy Galpin and Emma Colby. I distrusted this and disregarded it. 1-- Jacob Ransford COLBY (1821-1907) sp-Margaret SAMPSON (1832-1873) 2-- Martha COLBY (1849-1849) 2-- Cynthia COLBY(1849-1850) 2-- Jacob COLBY (1850-1850) 2-- Isaac Ransford COLBY (1851-1916) sp-Mary Ellen HOOPES(1850) 3-- Isaac R. COLBY (1878-1962) sp-Elizabeth Catherine KILLIAN (1855) 2-- Mary Elizabeth COLBY (1856-1932) sp-Anders (Andrew) Peter ANDERSEN (1850) 2-- Abram Thomas COLBY (1859-1919) sp-Jullette MINCHEY sp-Hannah CHILD (1830) 2-- Mariam COLBY (1865-1870) 2-- Charles William COLBY (1868-1870) 2-- James Henry COLBY (1870-1941) sp-Lois Virginia TWITCHELL (1870) 2-- Sarah Melissa COLBY3 (1872-1898) * * * * * * * Hannah Colby married Henry Alanson Teeples Dec. 15, 1868 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, UT. Unless she was a VERY SMALL child-bride, she would have to have been born among the earliest of Ransford's children, born back in Nauvoo. But, all those babies DIED! UNLESS!!! If there really were 2 more wives for Ransford, one (or more) having been married to him in Nauvoo, then it is possible that this Hannah could be from that marriage!! How can we find out the real story on the other families?
I am searching for family with the BATCHELOR sirname. Came to Utah in the 1860's and settled in Salt Lake City and around Ogden. Any cousins out there? Thank you, S. Heryford
HI all: If any of you have something you want posted to the list, but aren't sure it is appropriate to post......run it by me first. I will gladly let you know. This list is for anything good and uplifting about our pioneer families. Ask yourself this.....is what I am sending going to fit that catagory? Are my words going to hurt someone's feelings or cause some angry flames to erupt? Always, always, check before hitting that little 'send' button. That way the burden won't be on anyone's shoulders. Each and everyone of you are good and kind. So many help others with lookups whenever possible and even go so far as to provide copies of materials. Good people. Every once in a while someone (like me ;) might post a message to the list. This message might cause a whole bunch of 'bounced messages' at the Rootsweb computer. This usually happens because somewhere along the lines of computer links one of those links has gone down and broken the chain. So, messages get bounced back to the big Rootsweb brain. The smartlist brain looks at all those bounces coming in and has to make a decision as to what to do......not so smart. It 'thinks' that 'you' have caused it a major headache with your posting so drops your name from the list and tells you so with a message back to you. This message says something like this....'you' have been dropped from the list for causing excessive bounced messages. Okay, you did cause the bounces, but it wasn't YOUR fault. So, what to do? Best thing? Tell the computer that it is really rather dumb, and then just resub to the list. This can happen with any rootsweb list you are on and should not be taken personally because it is just a machine making machine decisions. Okay? Remember, if you can't remember that I am the list manager, you can always send a message to Handcart-L-request@rootsweb.com That is the same with any list you are on. These messages always go directly to the list manager because the smartlist computer CAN'T process them as a 'command'. That works. Terri

I am doing research on John Robinson Cunnington. I do not know who his parents were. He married Ellnora Wadsworth December 10, 1876. The Wadsworth's seem to have been researched very well, but where John Robinson Cunnington comes in I'm at a dead end. I do not have his birth date or death date or his parents names. I find quite alot of references to John or J.R. Cunnington in various historical writings about the early times of Salt Lake City and LDS settlement. Could this be the same person and my great great grandfather? Willing to share what I have on Wadsworth (Joseph Warren and Abigail Higley) and Cunnington surnames. Looking for anyone else with the same. Melanie Ellingson

Trouble is I feel that my enquiry is a bit too vague to merit your attention! My Brewers, of which I am a (74 yr old) 5th generation representative, start with a John Brewer of Felstead, Essex, England. He was born about 1738, but my enquiry concerns members of my great-grandfather's generation. My great-grandfather was Henry Brewer, b. 1807 at Felstead; d. 1872 Leytonstone Essex. In 1854 he married Sophia (Greenhill). Of their six children, only three reached adulthood. These were William, Henry Joseph and Arthur Edward. Henry Joseph, my grandfather, having married Sophia Ann (Lyne) in 1876, settled in Leytonstone where they raised a large family (14 children - but 3 died in infancy). William, b. 1855, and Arthur, b. 1859, having lost their mother in 1864 and their father in 1872, decided to emigrate as Mormon converts. I don't know exactly when but probably about 1874. William married Lovina (Ellingford) on 25 Jul 1878 at SLC UT (she was an English girl, don't know where or when they met). They settled in Henefer which is where their nine children were born. Arthur married Mary Ann Hardy (Perry) on 21 Apr 1886 at Morgan UT. Mary was b. 24 Apr 1867 at SLC, of British parents. They settled in Morgan which is where their eleven children were born. After WW2, two of their sons, Edward and Raymond Jerome, corresponded with certain Uncles of mine. In Dec 1967, Raymond sent them a set of family history sheets which have provided most of my data. I got a copies of the FHS and two of the letters only last year - long after the deaths of all my Uncles. In the letter covering the FHS, written in fact by Raymond's wife, Ethel (Burke), it says and I quote: "...William Brewer and Arthur Brewer both came here to Utah from Essex England when their parents died. There was an Uncle by the name of Henry Brewer and his wife who also came to Utah. I understand they came across the plains in what is called the handcart company. They didn't have any children but were very good to William and Arthur. This couple is buried up here in Henefer Cemetery by the side of William Brewer and his family." end of quote. That is the background, now at last comes my query. The only Henry in the appropriate generation was my great-grandfather - the father of William and Arthur - not childless, not buried in Utah! He did have a lot of brothers, all of whom were uncles to William and Arthur, and for whom I have birth and death dates, but not places of death. One of these, another William I'm afraid, was born at Felstead 7 Apr 1809 and died 20 Nov 1878. A contact made through BREWER-L (Kathy Willett) has sent me a copy of the following obit: Brewer, William - age 69 emigrated to Utah 1857 d. 1878, 20 Nov, Henneferville, Utah Deseret News 27:204 - 1878 Kathy also sent me this extract from a list of ship's passengers: 1857 - Ship: George Washington (dep. L 28 Mar, arr B 20 Apr - church leader James P. Park) William*, age 48 Jane, age 52 The dates certainly fit my William. Did Ethel get the name wrong when she referred to an uncle called Henry? Was 'Jane' William's wife and they the childless Handcart couple? Or was there another relative that I can't identify? Well that is all I know - is there any way of getting clarification? Any suggestions welcome - you may have seen some posts I have made to BREWER-L also to Gloria Jones's list. Have a good vacation.....love your signature! George (cant think of anything clever myself! :-)) PS. Can anyone put me in touch with a BREWER in Henefer, Morgan or Ogden? -- George Brewer Hayling Island, Hampshire, England.

Please do not post chain letters on any Rootsweb list. Rootsweb's management is very much against such a large volume message being sent out and the individual that does this could so easily be banned from further use of all Rootsweb's lists. This is a big no-no. The headers alone in this one were longer than the letter. Terri

Birthdates and first names always help ;) Eldon (my hubby) has the Wight line from New York and they settled in Brigham City. I have some pretty extensive histories on this group including some pictures. His ggggrandfather was Lewis Wight and his wife was Nancy Urania Elliot. They are both buried here in the Brigham City Cemmetery along with their son Charles Wight and his wife Sarah Ellen Loveless. Charles and Sarah Ellen's baby was the first documented burial in Brigham City and occured in 1853 just after the city was originally settled. The baby's grave was lost. In the late 1950's a horrible thunderstorm swept the area and a huge lightening bolt struck a really old pine tree in the cemmetery exploding it down to its roots. The next day when the cemmetery crew was cleaning up the mess they found a small marker under the roots of the tree. The marker was the baby's and the little grave was moved next to her mother's grave with a new marker added that this was the first burial in Brigham City. What a claim to fame....being the first one to die in a new area :( Lewis held some positions of importance during the early days of the church. I have that history. He was one of the original Animal Control Officers here in Brigham City (good old Dog Catcher ;). He is on the Court Records along with his sons extensively. He and his sons paid their tithing by bringing down from the Canyons the majority of the wood used in building the Box Elder County Courthouse and those records are recorded on the court records.
