    2. According to AGBI he was born in Virginia in 1750.  In 1782 census he is listed with only 2 white souls in his household. His name is listed next to Benjamin Handcock who had a household of 4 whites.  There are 4 other Handcocks listed as heads of households in Halifax County, Virginia that year.  They are Thomas Handcock, Sr. (7 white souls), Thomas Jr. (5), Benjamin Handcock, Jr.(2) (so I assume that the one listed beside Absalom must be Sr.) and John Handcock(1).It seems highly possible to me that Benjamin Sr and Thomas Sr are brothers and fathers of the other Handcocks. 1785 Handcock Heads of Households in Halifax County, VA were : Benjamin (3 with no dwelling and 3 other buildings), Thomas (6 one dwelling and 1 other building), Benjamin (3 No dwelling but 1 other building), James (4 no dwelling and no other buildings) Thomas (7whites a dwelling and 2 other buildings, Joseph (8 whites no dwelling and 2 other buildings) Stephen (1 no dwelling and no buildings) and Absalom (4 whites, a dwelling and 3 other buildings.Years ago a cousin of my mother's told me the family came from Halifax to Patrick County.  When I asked her why they left she said that the house burned.  Some years later another Hancock researcher not of my line, sent me the copy of a pension record for Stephen Hancock.  In his application which was dated 4 Oct 1832, Stephen told of his service in Virginia during the Revolutionary War.  He states that he resided in Halifax County, Virginia.  He also states the times and dates that he served and that one of his enlistments was in substitute for Absalom Hancock.  He said that he could not produce and papers as proof because they burned in the house in Halifax County.  Stephen was 79 years old when he applied for the pension.  That would put his year of birth at 1753.  Because he was listed next door to Absalom and ABsalom was believed to be born in 1750, I think Stephen was his brother.  I also think that either Benjamin Sr or Thomas Sr was the father of them both.Absalom was in Patrick County in 1800 because he married Martha Graham 15 Dec 1800. I believe Patrick County was formed in 1791 or 1792.  1791 tax records have Absalom listed with Benjamin, John and William.  1792 Absalom, William and Benjamin.  1793 was really hard to read. 1794 was Absalom, John, Major, William and Benjamin.Other than the connection with Stephen, I have not found proof of Absalom's father or what happened to the children in his household in 1785.  I have the information about the children of Absalom and Martha Grahamas Absalom was my 3 times great grandfather.  I would love to be able to connect with descendants of any brothers or even a child that lived to come to Patrick County with Absalom. 3. Have been researching Halifax county Hancocks. My My great grandfather was Samuel S. Hancock c.1830. His mother was named Catherine or Kitty. She is my personal brick wall. I've never been able to go beyond her. I'd always assumed that Hancock was her married name, but a YDNA test showed that Samuel's father was probably an Owen or Owens. So it looks like Hancock was her maiden name . If anyone has any info on Absolum, Benjamin, or Steven's children, I'd really appreciate you sharing it with me. Thank you, Mike Hancock Maiden, NC ________________________________ From: hdrosie--- via HANCOCK <hancock@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 28, 2019 11:38 PM To: hancock@rootsweb.com <hancock@rootsweb.com> Cc: hdrosie@aol.com <hdrosie@aol.com> Subject: [HANCOCK] Re: [EXTERNAL] Absalom Hancock According to AGBI he was born in Virginia in 1750.
