Hello folks, This is a very interesting site as I found several of my surnames (not necessarily my lines) throughout this site. Two Hancocks: Anthony Hancock in Appomattox Co., VA Hull H. Hancock in Giles Co., TN Jean Hancock in TX From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, August 18, 2003 9:37 AM To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: Link to add to Marshall Web Page <snip>...the link containing the index of people that applied to the Southern Claims Commission for reimbursement of their property by claiming to be Union loyalists? Because of Bobby's sharp eye, he noticed that I had an ancestor on the list and sent me the information necessary to request a copy of their file which contains 55 pages. I am so excited by the find I can hardly wait for it to arrive in the mail. Click here: <http://www.slcl.lib.mo.us/slcl/sc/scc/scc-geolist.htm> Geographical List of Southern Claims Commission Claimants If you decide to put the link, here is the address to write to request a search for the file: General Reference Branch (NNRG-P) National Archives and Records Administration 7th and Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20408 You can request only one applicant per letter. You will need to supply the State and County, as well as the name of the claimant and the claim number if you have it. A page count will be done and they will then create a Reproduction Order Price Quote and mail it to you. You can also file online to this address. [email protected] The same rules apply as above. I have included the address information because it took me several days of dilligent searching before I could find an address. I finally found one on a RootsWeb message board, but while they included the street name, they did not include the street number. I got that by going back to the NARA web page, which does not include an address specific to the SCC. Earlier I had emailed NARA and they responded back two weeks later with the address for electronic filing.
