My grandmother was Elizabeth Hancock. She was born in May, 1856 in Indiana and married Thomas Grimes at Fountain County, Indiana in October 1874, she died in Clay Co. Arkansas around the early 1930's. I know her children's names etc.but nothing more about her other than the 1900 census for Clay Co. Arkansas says that her father was from North Carolina and her mother was from Kentucky. I do not know what their names are for sure, but the only Hancock's We have found in Indiana with the father being from NC and the mother being from Ky is Robert and Nancy Hancock who were living in Boone County, Indiana in 1860 and they are listed on the census as having a daughter named Elizabeth that is the right age to be my grandmother. I am assuming that this is the right family but there is no relatives left that I can ask for sure. Since I see that many of you are researching the Hancock's of North Carolina I was wandering if maybe you may have came upon some info about Robert and Nancy Hancock that would help me. I need to know who their parents were. Nancy may have been Robert's second wife. But I don't know that for sure, there was a John Hancock that was older than Elizabeth living in that household, yet not old enough to be Robert's brother. I'm assuming he was Elizabeth's half-brother. Any information you could give me will be greatly appreciated. Have a beautiful day, V. Mayfield [email protected]
There were HANCOCKs in Boone County, Indiana also from the line of (Capt.) John Hancock. This family line migration pattern went from (Capt.) John Hancock & Nancy Ann Graves of Louisa Co., VA to Woodford, Fayette, and Franklin Cos., KY; to Butler Co., OH onto Boone Co., IN. However, I do not recognize any of your line.
