This week I was given old photocopy of a book titled "Our Hancock Family". It was written or compiled by a Sable Darlene Brooks Kenny in 1970.There is no copywrite on this material. The lady that wrote it lived inFort Worth, Teaxs at the time but she or her family are not listed in the current phone directory. The photocopied book is 57 pages long and traces the movements of some of the Hancock's as they moved from Laurens County, SC in 1781 to Jackson County, Tennessee in 1816 to Henry County, Missouri in 1859 to Grayson County, Texas in 1860 to Erath County, Texas in 1874 The book lists Mrs. ____ Hancock as the 1st generation. Her husband is not listed in the book. Her children are listed as: James Hancock, wife unknown William Hancock, wife Fanny ___Hancock John Hancock, wife unknown Clement Hancock, wife Patsy ____Hancock Sally Hancock (Rhodes), husband was William Rhodes. There are two or three poor photos in the book. I'm sure most of the long term researchers already have this book or have read it. The title page is handwritten and book was probably in a pressboard folder with a long vertical clip. I would like to send this book to some one who's family is in the book. Does anyone recognize this family? Bill Felknor
Bill, I've been on vacation the past week, but when I read your message, I wanted to reply. I have not seen this book you are describing and would love to have a copy of it if possible. The family is the family of John Hancock and Susanna Bridges from Cumberland Co., NC. John's will is found in Cumberland, where he died, evidently quite young, as his wife is listed as 'with child' in the will. Let me know if it would be possible to get a copy of this material, as there has been much confusion on this family.
