Page 629 Biography of James Hancock listed as the firm of Hancock and Lowe. ! James C. Hancock, native of Ky., born in Wayne Co., Ky., Oct 12, 1834, his father was Benj Hancock native of S.C. (should be N.C.) born 1779 and his grandfather was Benj Hancock, Rev War soldier. His mother was Elizabeth Vickery, a native of Ky and of German Descent. James was raised in Ky and educated in Ky Monticello Academy and afterwards attended Columbia College in Ky. He taught in DeWal's Valley in Ky. He came to Missouri in the spring of 1860 and was there until 1864. He went to Montana and engaged in minning and stock-raising business successfully for 3 years and when he returned to north Missouri farmed 6 years there, he then spend a year or two travelling and finally settled in Arkansas and there he remained 4 years. He then came to Webb City, Mo. in 1878, engaging in the furniture business, in connection with his partner and now carries on. He married in Randolph Co. Mo to Mrs. Elizabeth Morris nee Owens. She died in Ark. June 13, 1876 and he married again in Boone Co., Ark to Miss Mary A. Lowe. They are members of the Christian Church. !
